Welcome to Ikaalinen |
| | Yes
- this is exactly what you feel, when you arrive in this charming city. A city
placed around lakes with never ending shades of green showing all respect for
nature, that one can possibly imagine. Your first point of contact for the
festival is the Festival Office where you will find very helpful people, that
give you all information necessary for feeling comfortable during your stay of
the Festival. The ladies responsible for the festivals are Minna Kulmala (Festival
Director pictured on the right) and Minna Plihtari (Public Relation)
| | | Once
you receive your program you will not know where to go first, as you are sourrounded
by accordion music and well known faces from around the world. Every
year many accordionists are invited to take part in this mega-accordion happening
- where this year thousands of people are expected, with numbers being based on
figures from pre-paid tickets to all the offered events. If the weather
permits, one just has to walk around this beautiful small city you will maybe
get a bit surprised walking passed yound and older people still keeping to their
Finnish tradition and showing it with pride: such as these two ladies walking
through the park with their tradtional dresses. Accordion Music is coming
to your ear and so one stops. Just for a second to continue your way through the
city - but no, one stops for longer, as the next piece is even nicer than the
one you have just heard... and the next one too. So - you will take a seat and
continue your way through the city a little bit later on....
|
This is the City Hall Festivity Building where birthday events, marriages,
meetings and other Festivities are held. A very old house with a flair of old
times inside:
| |
| We
are continuing our walk and will see many more beautiful places. Most of the houses
are made of wood and are painted yellow or red which are within all the surrounding
green like flowers in the fields.
You
will find bycicles in almost every house as it is very very popular. If you visit
this country and especially this city during the Sata Häme Soi Festival
- take your time to take a ride ...fill your lungs with fresh and clean air... and enjoy beautiful scenery... |
| ...just
like the following examples: But if you are not in the mood of taking all your
energy to cycle around the lakes, through imense parks, take the small road going
from the centre of the Ikaalinen Festival Park and go on a boat trip from this
little harbour.
It will take you around to get in contact with nature, that we mostly
can only dream of. Leaving the Ikaalinen Park after a good amount of accordion
music you will also pass the Accordion Pub, where you will find young people trying
to show all they have to offer to their audience, but mostly they are enjoying
themselves. This is a feeling that you will get the very moment you step into
the place. |
