 The Finnish Accordion Folk Musician Championships
The Finnish Accordion Folk Musican Championship was held at Oma Tupa, and was held in five categories based on age as well as a sixth category added this year for ethnic music. Each contestant was required to play on either a one or two row accordion, and was required to perform one Finnish Polka and one own choice selection of traditional Finnish Folk Music such as a Waltz, Polka etc...

The newly renovated Sata-Häme Soi Festival office shows the main town gate in Ikaalinen over the door, as well as scenes from Lake Kyrösjärvi, the 49th largest lake in Finland covering 96.2 square km. Pictured below is Staff team member Annie Whiteland.
 2008 Golden and Silver Accordion
NOTE: The Golden Accordion TV Show attraced approximately 550,000 viewers, and was the most watched show that evening on Finnish TV.

The Winner of the Golden Accordion The Winner of the Silver Accordion The Golden and Silver Accordion were decided in a live Television broadcast on June 25th, 2008 at the Sata-Häme Soi Accordion Festival in Ikaalinen, Finland.

The winner represents Finland on Friday in The International Primus Ikaalinen competition. The Winner of the Golden Accordion, Ukko-Pekka Yilranta, got 2500 euros, the second prize is 1000 euros and the third prize is 500 euros.

The Winner of the Silver Accordion, Viljami Morander, received 1000 euros. The Silver Accordion winner is decided by Television audience who vote via phone messages and texting.

Note: Since after the first round Sormunen and Yliranta were in a tie, the jury decided, based on their performances of the whole day, that Yliranta would play in the final round.

The three best candidates proceeded to the final round. The final winner was selected based on the votes of the TV audience.

Final results of THE GOLDEN ACCORDION:

1. Ukko-Pekka Yliranta 46,9 %
2. Henna Tahvanainen 30,8 %
3 . Henriikka Santamaa 22,3 %

The jury of the Golden and Silver Accordion: Satu Sopanen, Chairman, Pasi Hirvonen, Renzo Ruggieri, Italy, musician, chairman for the jury of Primus Ikaalinen, Antti Nissilä, composer, conducter of INO, Anne-Mari Kanniainen, the winner of the Golden Accordion 2005 and Sami Hopponen the winner of the Golden Accordion 2007.
