Dino Baffetti Accordion Factory Manufacturing Again Following March 2024 Fire - Italyby Accordions Worldwide |

 The Dino Baffetti Accordion Factory is manufacturing instruments again following the devastating and destructive factory fire on 14 March 2024.The flames involved two floors of the factory, which covers a big area plus smoke damage. The fire brigade was on the scene, with teams from Osimo and Ancona. Luckily no people were injured. Reasons for the fire was found in the production part of the factory, caused by an electricity power strip for heating the wax early in the morning, to be ready for the workers to use, once they start to work. Most of the instruments positioned in the middle part of the factory were completely damaged and could no longer be used. The entire factory had to be cleaned up from top to bottom due to heavy smell of burn, smoke and dust. Now, only 3 months later, the Baffetti Accordion company was able to "wash" away all stains in the factory and also from their hearts, getting ready with all their possible efforts, to continue to supply their customers.  The Monastery Music Springs (Klášterecké Hudební Prameny) 20th Anniversary festival will be held at the Castle Monastery in Klášterec nad Ohrí, Czech Republic, from July 9th to 13th, 2024. The event will feature daily concerts from 7pm. Accordionist Ladislav Horák (picture left) will perform at a Gala Concert in honour of the 20th anniversary of the festival in the Castle courtyard in Klášterec nad Ohrí on July 12th, 2024. His program will include music by Elton John, Claude Bolling and Ástor Piazzolla. |

  The Milwaukee Irish Fest will be held at the 75 acre Henry Maier Festival Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from August 15th to 18th, 2024.The event will feature over 100 acts across 16 stages. “From traditional Irish to indie-rock there's musical entertainment for everyone at the Milwaukee Irish Fest!” Accordion performances as follows: • Drops of Green (picture above left, which features accordionist Sean Kearney) will perform at the Lakefront Brewery Stage at 6.15pm on August 15th. • Goitse (picture above right) will perform at the Parkview Senior Living Community Stage at 8pm on August 16th. • Leahys Luck (picture below, which features accordionist Stas Venglevski) will perform at the Parkview Senior Living Community Stage at 1.30pm on August 17th. • Providence Ceili band will perform at the Dance Pavillion from 12 midday on August 18th. • Concertina Circle: Mary MacNamara(County Clare), Mohsen Amini (from the group Talisk – Scotland), and Lexie Boatright (USA), will perform at the Village Pub Stage at 4.30pm on August 18th.  The CNIMA, directed by Nathalie Boucheix, will hold an “Intensive Pro Accordion Workshop” from July 29th to August 3rd, 2024 in Saint-Sauves-d'Auvergne, France.The trainer is Jacques Mornet (picture left), a world-renowned accordion teacher, holder of the Gus Viseur prize, the silver disc of the Gnessin Russian Academy and founder of the CNIMA. The workshop, for high level students of all ages will cover preparation for international accordion competitions, Graduate Schools admission exams, or just a professional career.   The Ashokan Northern Week 2024 will be held at The Ashokan Center in Olivebridge, New York, USA from July 14th to 20th, 2024.The week’s events will begin with a “pre-camp BBQ dinner and dance” on July 13th. Attendees can dine, dance, or just enjoy a great evening of New England music and dancing under Ashokan’s outdoor pavilion! Learn dance basics and then join in the contras & squares with live music by Jay Ungar & Molly Mason and the Northern Week staff. Joan Eileen Reekie 1942 to 2024 – New Zealandby Harley Jones |
 Joan Eileen Reekie, the mother of well known New Zealand vocalist and accordionist Lionel Reekie and sister Carolyn Reekie passed away on June 24th, 2024. Both Lionel and Carolyn performed in honor of their mother at the funeral, which was held in Albany, Auckland, New Zealand on July 1st, 2024.Joan was a long time supporter of accordion activities in New Zealand and travelled on a number of tours with the Air New Zealand Accordion Orchestra when they were New Zealand Cultural Ambassadors and made many international concert tours enjoying extensive acclaim and publicity, promoting tourism to New Zealand. • 1981 tour to Europe and Singapore • 1984 USA and Canadian tour 1984 • 1986 European tour • 1988 Expo 88 in Brisbane, Australia, China tour, Singapore and Hong Kong concerts • 1990 Western USA tour • 1992 European tour • 1994 Eastern Canada and Eastern USA tour • 1996 Germany, Austria and Switzerland |

 A Styrian Harmonica Seminar for Beginners will be held at the Quetschn Academy in Graz, Austria on August 17th and 18th, 2024 from 9am to 5pm.The seminar tutor is Thomas Holzer (picture left).   The PIF Castelfidardo Competitions and Festival is organised by the City Council of Castelfidardo led by Mayor Roberto Ascani, the Castelfidardo Pro Loco Tourist Association headed by Ruben Cittadini and 2024 PIF Artistic Director Antonio Spaccarotella.The 49th PIF (Premio Internationale Fisarmonica) Castelfidardo 2024 will be held from September 11th to 15th in Castelfidardo immediately following the 2024 Coupe Mondiale which is also being held in Castelfidardo, September 6th to 10th, 2024. These two major international accordion competitions and festivals mean that competitors, enthusiasts and supporters can with one airfare, attend both these exciting events at the home of Italian accordion manufacture. The excellent 2024 PIF prizes are designed to attract competitors from many different countries. The PIF Premio Award, the most prestigious PIF category features three finalists in the 3rd round, performing with a full symphony orchestra in the Teatro Astra. Each finalist will perform the world premiere of the commissioned work composed by Veli Kujala (Finland). President of the international jury is Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi (Italy).  Wallingford Riegger’s Cooper Square,Virgil Thomson’s Lamentations, and Paul Creston’s Second of Four AAA Commissions, Concerto for Accordion and Orchestra This is one of longest and most historical and analytical ventures of this series, owing to the great accomplishment of Elsie Bennett to have persuaded three of America’s most famous and celebrated composers of the early and mid-twentieth century to contribute to the accordion’s growing classical repertoire. The three works are as diverse and unique as were their disparate styles of composition. Creston was in his usual virtuosic, syncopated, modal, jazzy, and somewhat Debussyian element in his creation of perhaps the most frequently performed and highly virtuosic concerto for accordion and orchestra. Riegger, one of America’s earliest exponents of atonal composition, and pegged as one of the “American Five” of ultra-modern music stemming from the 1920s (the other four controversial luminaries of the group being Charles Ives, Carl Ruggles, John Becker, and Henry Cowell, the last fated to become a two-time contributor to the AAA Commissioned Composers repertoire decades later), chose to write a rather curious, abstract kind of tango named after New York’s Cooper Square where many musicians of note hung out during the mid-20th century. Thomson, normally a more tonal, less dissonant composer than either of the above, opted to write a short but extremely dissonant, rather terrifying and highly virtuosic set of variations on a chilling, crashing processional that comprises the opening theme.
