 Joan Eileen Reekie, the mother of well known New Zealand vocalist and accordionist Lionel Reekie and sister Carolyn Reekie passed away on June 24th, 2024. Both Lionel and Carolyn performed in honor of their mother at the funeral, which was held in Albany, Auckland, New Zealand on July 1st, 2024.Joan was a long time supporter of accordion activities in New Zealand and travelled on a number of tours with the Air New Zealand Accordion Orchestra when they were New Zealand Cultural Ambassadors and made many international concert tours enjoying extensive acclaim and publicity, promoting tourism to New Zealand. • 1981 tour to Europe and Singapore • 1984 USA and Canadian tour 1984 • 1986 European tour • 1988 Expo 88 in Brisbane, Australia, China tour, Singapore and Hong Kong concerts • 1990 Western USA tour • 1992 European tour • 1994 Eastern Canada and Eastern USA tour • 1996 Germany, Austria and Switzerland |
