Welcome
to Arrasate,
Spain |
Arrasate/Mondragón
is located on the southwest of the historical territory of
Gipuzkoa, in Debagoiena region. The town is formed by the
Udala, Bedoña, Garagartza and Gesalibar neighbourhoods
and encompassed by Udalaitz (1,082 m), Murumendi (775 m) and
Kurtzetxiki (532 m) Mountains. In addition, the Rivers Deba
and Aramaio meet in the urban area.
Arrasate/Mondragón
is one of the most important industrial towns of the Basque
Autonomous Region. Its economic development is closely linked
to the cooperative movement that began in the 50s, which helped
the town become a worldwide well-known industrial centre,
through the Mondragón Cooperative Corporation (MCC),
the greatest enterprise in the Basque Autonomous Region.
Medieval
Old Town: Arrasate/Mondragón is an attractive spot
for tourists. You can walk through the Old Town, which is
surrounded by a wall. The church of San Juan Bautista (Baroque
style), the convent of San Francisco (current culture centre)
and Okendo and Artazubiaga Palaces are some of the captivating
buildings you can find there.
Monterrón
and Santa Bárbara Parks are worth a visit. Monterrón
has a palace that was built in the 17th century and also ancient
trees that are classified among the peculiar trees of the
Basque Autonomous Region, such as giant sequoias. As to Santa
Bárbara, it towers over the old quarter offering magnificent
panoramic views of the town.
Access: Most attendees will choose to fly into Bilbao, Spain,
and from there, take the convenient bus connection to Arrasate.
