Gorka Hermosa (picture left - Spain) has won the 2020 PIF Classic & Ensemble Composition for Accordion Competition. The annual theme of the festival was "All the Colors of the World".

Nineteen works arrived this year and the organisers were impressed with the high artistic level of the compositions.

The Jury included Friedrich Lips (Chairman - Russia), Franck Angelis (France), Livio Bollani (Italy), Antonio Cericola (Italy), Bete Ilin (Macedonia), Pascale Martinez (France), Petri Makkonen (Finland), Massimiliano Pitocco (Italy), Volodymyr Runchak (Ukraine), Simona Simonini (Italy) and Peter Soave (USA).

Gorka Hermosa’s composition "Dwarves' Tales" was originally commissioned by the Berliner Philarmoniker for the Spring Festival in Berlin, an event postponed due to Covid-19. Gorka decided to adapt the initial ideas and orchestration for the PIF contest.

2nd place: Zhao Xiaoxiang (China), student of "Central Conservatory of Music" in Beijing.
3rd place: Wojciech Chalupka (Poland).

Gorka’s "Dwarves' Tales" will be the final compulsory test piece of the PIF 2020 Premium category and will be performed in a world premiere on the final evening of the PIF competition on September 20th, 2020.
