Accordion Museum Opens, Melk - Austria

On May 6th 1829 the Viennese organ builder Cyrill Demian deposited a patent for the first playable accordion. The accordion is an Austrian invention that rapidly completed its triumphal march throughout the entire world, and now, after 180 years, still enriches the music world.

Hannes Thanheiser, actor, musician and passionate collector, opened the first accordion museum in Austria on June 18th 2009, in Sterngasse 19, Melk, Lower Austria, and makes his extensive collection available to the public for all visitors.

There are rarities, treasures and curiosities from the 1860 to the present time. Furthermore, one can view the largest collection of accordion figurines in Austria.

Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday 10am – 6pm.
