New RAM Masters Degree, Aarhus - Denmarkby Rob Howard |
The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus, Denmark, (accordion tutor Emir Bosnjak – picture left), is to offer a new degree course leading to the Master of Global Music (GLOMAS), involving various instruments, including accordion. This is an innovative and specialized graduate degree program, responsive to new needs arising from globalization in the field of music. In most cases, the Master degree program will take 2 years to complete, and leads to a Masters Degree of Music (MMus). The common language of the program is English. The application deadline is March 1st 2012. The program emphasizes development of ‘bimusical’ performance skills, typically within at least two traditions from different parts of the world, as well as studies of topics relevant to the career of a professional musician. Students will primarily be affiliated with one of the three Glomus founding partner institutions in Denmark, Sweden (Malmö Academy of Music) or Finland (Sibelius Academy, Helsinki), but will also participate in joint courses held at each institution, for which travel and lodging expenses will normally be covered. In addition to coursework, all students will also conduct fieldwork on a foreign or minority musical culture. Students will be offered opportunities for fieldwork via partner institutions in the Southern hemisphere, particularly Africa and the Middle East.
