Editor’s Note - World Accordion Day, Accordion Anthologyby Rob Howard |
May 6th once again, is World Accordion Day and Accordions Worldwide is keen to promote events that celebrate the official advent of our favorite instrument. It was on May 6th 1829 that Cyrillius Demien (Cyril Damian) patented his first accordion design in Vienna, Austria, sparking off what became a global craze for this instrument. If you are organising an accordion event, large or small, on or near May 6th please let us know on robaccord5@hotmail.com. My personal contribution this year will be the publication on May 6th of a book, ‘Accordion Anthology’, a celebration of the accordion in the UK. There will be more about this in the news for the week ending May 6th. It is amazing to see how the accordion has developed over the years in appearance and design since the early years, adapting perfectly to many musical genres and sub-genres throughout the world. It is played by young and old alike everywhere, and its repertoire and usage continue to develop and to delight audiences everywhere. Long may this continue. Rob Howard |
