 Le 30ième festival de musique traditionelle et de musique du monde de Førde se déroulera dans les hôtels, les musées, les centres culturels et les scènes en plein air de Førde et de ses alentours en Norvège, du 3 au 7 juillet. Le cœur du festival est le centre culturel “Førdehuset” qui est composé de quatre auditoriums pouvant contenir de 170 à 2500 personnes. Le thème de cette année est : « 2019 : 30 années sans frontières ! ».Ce festival est l’un des plus grands festivals de musique traditionnelle et de musique du monde en Scandinavie, avec 90 concerts, 30 salles et 300 artistes du monde entier et un public nombreux de 25,000 à 30,000 spectateurs chaque année. Le programme du festival inclut une variété de concerts, ateliers, expositions, activités pour les enfants et soirées dansantes. Parmi les accordéonistes et les groupes on note, “Ein haile halve maone” (Norvège – photo ci-dessus) qui interprète des danses traditionnelles principalement de sa région, mais aussi d’autres parties de la Norvège ; « Floating Sofa Quartet” (Danemark, Suède et Finlande) avec Leija Lautamaja au Mélodéon & Harmonium. Leur répertoire est un mélange intéressant de compositions personnelles et de morceaux traditionnels de leur pays respectif. Il y’a aussi « Kroke » (Pologne) avec l’accordéoniste Jerzy Bawol, qui fait des improvisations de musique klezmer et de musique ethnique ; « Samurai Accordion” (Italie, Finlande and Irlande – photo ci-dessous), un groupe de 4 accordéonistes qui jouent un mélange de trad, folk, liscio, musique irlandaise, jazz et musique de film ; et le trio Sarah Savoy (USA – photo à gauche) qui joue un mélange de cajun, country et rock’n’roll.  Grâce à l’aimable soutien de l’ambassade d’Espagne à Vienne, l’accordéoniste de renommée internationale L’accordéoniste Iñaki Alberdi a été invité à donner une masterclass à l’université de musique et d’art de Vienne (MUK) la semaine dernière. Avec le professeur Grzegorz Stopa et les étudiants du MUK, il a donné un concert de clôture à l’auditorium Vivaldi. Au programme, des compositions de José María Sánchez-Verdú, Jesús Torres, Enrique Granados et Campina, Ernesto Halffter, Manuel de Falla, Tomás Luis de Victoria et Joan Guinjoan. Iñaki Alberdi a d’abord étudié en Espagne avec Carlos Iturralde, avant de compléter son cursus avec Friedrich Lips et Matti Rantanen à l’académie russe de musique Gnesin RAM à Moscou et l’académie Sibélius à Helsinki. Il remporté des premiers prix à la coupe mondiale (Colmar, 1994), à la compétition internationale d’accordéon et de bayan (Moscou, 1995) et à la compétition de musique pour les jeunes (Valladolid, 1996). Alberdi a travaillé étroitement avec divers compositeurs contemporains, inaugurant des oeuvres de Sofia Gubaidulina, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Luis de Pablo, Joan Guinjoan, Gabriel Erkoreka, Ramón Lazkano, Jesús Torres, Agustín Charles et José María Sánchez-Verdú. Il a joué dans de nombreuses salles de concert et à de nombreux festivals dans des groupes de musique de chambre ou orchestres. Le but de cette masterclass était de familiariser les étudiants avec la musique contemporaine espagnole à l’accordéon, ainsi qu’à de nouvelles manières de jouer, qui permettent de jouer ce qui semble « hors de portée et non jouable. » Ainsi si un compositeur comme José María Sánchez-Verdú souhaite explorer les possibilités de jouer des glissando à la main gauche dans son morceau "Horos II", l’accordéoniste doit se préparer à abandonner la position verticale de l’accordéon pour une position horizontale, afin de pouvoir jouer le doux et délicat glissando de sa main droite. Alberdi a démontré ceci avec aisance en interprétant pour la première fois « Horos II », "Arquitecturas del silencio" de Verdù (Architectures du silence), voyageant au-delà des limites de l’instrument, aussi dans "Arquitecturas de espejos" (architectures de mirroir), avec non seulement des registres extrêmes, mais aussi la manipulation et distorsion de son et de nouvelles techniques instrumentales (sons étranglés, jeu avec l’air, bruit et justesse, répétition, sensations auditives complexes, etc …) Composée en 2004, "Arquitecturas del silencio" a été joué pour la première fois à Cagliari l’année suivante par Esteban Algora, à qui la pièce est dédiée. Joan Guinjoan est né à Riudoms, à la Baix Camp, en 1931 et est l’un des compositeurs les plus importants de Catalogne. Avant de débuter sa carrière, son premier instrument fut l’accordéon. Grâce à cet instrument il a découvert l’harmonie et la musique du monde, à travers les « sons de la terre » ("Sonidos de la Tierra"), à la fois venant des champs et de la nature. C’est le titre de la composition de Guinjoan à l’accordéon, qu’a interprété pour la première Iñaki Alberdi en 2008 : voir une retrouvaille de Guinjoan avec son premier instrument, l’accordéon. La « Cadencias » de Jesùs Torres tirée de son concerto pour accordéon “Concierto para acordeón y orquesta” ; « La très animée "Danza de la Pastora » (Danse de la bergère) d’Ernesto Halffter, extraite de son ballet « Sonatina »; des extraits des "Siete canciones populares españolas" de Manuel de Falla, ainsi que trois danses d’Enrique Granados et des "Danzas españolas" de Campiña's, complétèrent le programme. |

 Mario Conway, 5 times All Britain Virtuoso Champion in the 1970s, has long been one of the UK’s country’s finest and best-known classical accordionists. His new CD entitled “Accordion pieces I have enjoyed playing” presents 17 of his favourite concert items, all performed as solo accordion numbers, and with no accompaniment or multi-tracking – just as one would hear when played live in a recital. The CD has superb sound quality with perfect balance between the treble and bass sides of the accordion. The pieces are all performed with considerable style and authority, and from start to finish you are listening to a master at his craft. This recording is in effect a lifetime perspective of Mario’s lengthy concert career, and is a must for anyone who enjoys solo classical accordion. The recording opens with Bel Viso, a lively Frosini composition beloved of accordionists, then there is a change of mood with an individual arrangement of Piazzolla’s Libertango. Pietro Deiro’s Pietro’s Return is another item often played by accordionists, as is Monti’s Czardas. My personal favourite track is the Sonata in D, by Scarlatti, which has great interplay between two hands using free bass, and there’s some really tricky stuff going on in there! The CD finishes with yet another accordionists’ favourite, the Carnival of Venice, and this version combines elements of both the Pietro Frosini and Pietro Deiro arrangements - a fireworks display to conclude a splendid and modestly priced (at a mere £5) CD that will be a treat for all those of who delight in excellence.  Concert accordionist and composer, Veikko Ahvenainen and his wife Carina Nordlund will combine with local clubs to perform a series of concerts in Finland this month.  The Vardos Trio which includes accordionist Sophia Chapman will perform at the Docklands Firelight Festival in Melbourne from June 28th to 30th. | The Earagail Arts Festival will be held in Donegal, Ireland from July 10th to 28th. This popular summer festival is a celebration of multidisciplinary arts and includes two weeks of music, theatre, visual arts, film, literature, circus & carnival which takes place each July in the North West of Ireland along the Wild Atlantic Way. Accordion performers who will entertain at the festival include “Ceol Agus Tapas” (picture above) who will give numerous free performances during the festival and “Lankum” (picture below) which includes Radie Peat (harmonium, accordion & vocals), brothers Ian Lynch (uilleann pipes, tin whistle & vocals), Daragh Lynch (vocals & guitar) alongside Cormac Mac Diarmada (fiddle).  Registrations are now open for CNIMA (directed by Nathalie Boucheix) summer Improvement Courses. Five day courses will be held from July 15th to 20th and July 22nd to 27th. Shorter courses of two and a half days will be held from July 15th to 17th and July 22nd to 24th. These courses are for all levels and styles and are open to all ages.Course content includes the educational system recognized worldwide by Jacques Mornet and will cover individual and group lessons in body positions and use of joints, phrasing, technique and bellows control.  The European Festivals Association (EFA) and the EFFE International Jury chaired by Sir Jonathan Mills (former director of the Edinburgh International Festival) is pleased to announce the festivals that are finalists for the 2019-2020 EFFE Awards.This biennial prize celebrates arts festivals that demonstrate artistic excellence and at the same time have a strong impact on the local and regional development of cultural cooperation. EFFE – Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe is initiated by the European Festivals Association (EFA) and supported by the European Commission. The winners will be presented during the EFFE Awards Ceremony in Bozar, Center for Fine Arts Brussels on September 26th, 2019. Many accordionists perform at these festivals and the organisers have announced that the EFFE Audience choice online voting is now open, so people all around the world can cast their vote for their favourite festival. Since the 1970s, Joey Miskulin has recorded with the likes of Paul McCartney, U2, John Denver, Ricky Skaggs, Andy Williams, Ricky Van Shelton, Emmylou Harris, Frankie Yankovic, Garth Brooks, to name but some. Also a singer, arranger, and producer, Joey Miskulin is well known for performing country music as ‘Joey the Cowpolka King’ with the band Riders in the Sky and polkas with Frankie Yankovic, but his versatility extends into jazz, evidenced by his album, ‘The Other Side of the Fence’. Also in 1990 for his ground breaking ‘Accordion Styles and Techniques’ video/DVD, which was the first video of its kind. Miskulin’s production credits include ‘Toy Story’ for Disney/Pixar, and recently in Shanghai, China, where he spent two weeks working with the Walt Disney Company. |
