Mika Väyrynen Honored with Artist Grant - Finland

Mika VäyrynenFinnish accordionist Mika Väyrynen has been honored by the Arts Promotion Center Finland, with a three year artist grant for 2014-2016. A recipient of the grant in 2013, Mika's work in the cultural arena in Finland has been recognized by the continuation of this prestigious award.

Established by the Parliament of Finland, the Arts Promotion Centre Finland works to promote the arts on both the national and international levels, as well as to promote aspects of culture that are not covered by any other official body. The Centre functions as an expert body under the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Mika Väyrynen will be appearing at the Lapua Organ Festival on the Marathon concert series where he will present works by Galynin, Bach/Busoni/Väyrynen and Saint-Saëns/Horowitz/Väyrynen in a concert on 21st September. Joining him on the concert will be three outstanding Finnish musicians Kalevi Kiviniemi (Organ), Mika Pohjonen (Tenor) and Kirsi Kiviharju (Harp).

The concert will take place at 9:00 PM at the Lapuan tuomiokirkko (Lapua Cathedral). This magnificent church designed by architect Carl Ludvig Engel was completed in 1827 and boasts Finland's largest pipe organ, built in 1938 by Kangasalan Urkutehdas.
