Kyle Schielen (15 years) Wins Award "d`r Sjeng" in Maastricht - Netherlandsby Holda Paoletti-Kampl |
Kyle Schielen(15 years) began to play the accordion at the age of 9 years at the Music school in Maastricht and was first taught by Prof. Anatoli Senine from Russia in classical music. After many holidays in Austria, Kyle decided to focus on performing folk music and studied with jazz accordionist Dominique Paats. Every November, the special award "d` r Sjeng" is made to accordionists, one year to an artist who performs many years in a famous orchestra or a group and the next year to a young talent. These talents have always been 19 years or older, and never to someone as young as Kyle. The award consists of a bronze statue of Sjeng Kraft (a very well known accordionist from Limburg), a cash prize and an appearance in Maastricht in front of 25,000 people covered live by TV L1 and radio. In September, Kyle presented his first CD of 10 compositions and on New Year's Eve, Kyle takes part in a program about "Winners in 2013" which is broadcast on Dutch TV. |
