Accordion Teachers Association of Massachusetts (ATAM) will sponsor their 52nd Music Festival at the Boston Newton Marriot in Newton, Mass. April 4-6, 2014. Chairman, Peggy Falcetti (picture left) states that this years’ event will be as large as last years with over 700 contestants. President, Johanna Lewis, is happy to announce the special performance on Sunday afternoon by Rachel Quirbach who represented the U.S. at the 2013 Coupe Mondiale. During the festival, contestants up to 22 years, take part in accordion, guitar, bass guitar, drum, percussion, piano, violin, and voice competitions. Solo, duet, and group categories are also offered. Non Competitive Categories include evaluation solos and festival group divisions. There are suitable categories regardless of experience. Contestants must be students of ATAM teachers. On Friday evening and Sunday, over 20 “Battle of the Bands” groups compete in the hotel ballroom. The solo championships are held Friday evening. On Saturday and Sunday continuous group competitions are held in the hotel ballroom and solo and duet categories are ongoing. An awards banquet is held on Saturday evening with more than 500 in attendance. More than $4,000 in cash is awarded to winners. Students also have the opportunity to participate in workshops, compete in age-level categories, perform for evaluation, attend concerts and have fun at a Dance Party on Saturday evening.
