 The Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) announces the 10th Anniversary edition of the magnificent World Accordion Orchestra which will be held as part of the upcoming 71st Coupe Mondiale and the 140th CIA International General Assembly of Delegates Congress in Kaunas, Lithuania. The event will be hosted by the CIA member The Lithuanian National Accordionists's Union from the 24-30 September, 2018, with the World Accordion Orchestra X concert taking place on Sunday, September 30th, 2018. Founded in Washington DC, in 2007 by musical director and CIA Honorary member Prof. Joan Sommers, "World Accordion Orchestra X" will perform three works from three diverse American composers. 1. Serenata by Leroy Anderson 2. Recuerdos by Amy Jo Sawyer 3. West Side Story - the CIA joins the global centennial celebration in honor of Leonard Bernstein's 100th annivesary. Conductor Prof Joan Sommers was awarded the title of Professor Emerita upon her retirement from the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory of Music (USA), where she established and taught the accordion degree program for forty years. This is a unique opportunity for accordionists to apply to play in a large international orchestra at the 2018 Coupe Mondiale and enjoy the experience of playing under the renowned baton of Joan C.
