Martynas Levickis (Lithuania) Named Artist in Residence - Germanyby Christine Johnstone |
Video: Martynas Levickis – Shallow (A Star Is Born) with Igne Pikalaviciute & Mikroorkéstra Lithuanian accordionist Martynas Levickis (picture left) has been named Artist in Residence at the 2020 Festival of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern held in northern Germany. He joins a distinguished list of performers at the event that includes Nigel Kennedy, Daniel Hope, Pinchas Zukerman and Daniel Muller-Schott. Martynas, who plays a classical and contemporary repertoire states: “This appointment and achievement means so much to me personally and professionally. I feel hugely inspired as well as challenged by it, but most importantly proud about my instrument being put in such important position. It is an immense attainment to me as an accordionist and I feel like standing on that marking line identifying the instrument as worthy, respected and loved". Royal Academy of Music, London, accordion tutor Owen Murray wrote: "This is fabulous for the evolution of the accordion into the main stream."
