Aotango: Live at the Auckland Museum - New Zealand

Aotango Live at the Museum
Video: Aotango - Promo video for Auckland Museum concert

Get ready to be dazzled as New Zealand’s celebrated quintet Aotango take you on an eclectic journey through the evolution of tango in a show featuring some of New Zealand’s top talent: Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) Concertmaster and violinist Andrew Beer, NZ Trio pianist Somi Kim at the Fazioli grand piano, world champion accordionist Grayson Masefield, APO Principal Bassist Gordon Hill and renowned jazz guitarist Sam Swindells.

The concert will take place on March 12th, 2023 from 6.30pm in the Auckland Museum’s stunning setting of Te Ao Marama South Atrium in Parnell. Auckland, with Tuitui Museum Bistro & Café offering delicious food and beverage options throughout the evening.

Presented in two acts, 'A Century of Tango' traces the origins and diverse expressions of this vibrant style. Through the course of the performance, hear how tango has evolved through African, European, South and Central American influences as they have entered through Rio de la Plata to the ports of Buenos Aires - with popular favourites "El Choclo", "Por una Cabeza" and "La Cumparsita" - and finally to the revolutionary nuevo tango style of Argentinian composer Ástor Piazzolla.
