ASA President Emeritus Else Brandman (1926-2011) NSW – Australia

Else Brandman
Else BrandmanElse Brandman died on December 1st 2011, aged 85 years, in Sylvania, New South Wales. Mrs Brandman was an inspirational lady and accordion teacher who had an enormous impact on all accordionists and musicians that she taught and educated. She will be missed by all.

Else was a lady who could make you feel as if you where the only person of importance as she communicated to you. Her subtle humor (with Germanic slant) will be remembered by all, as will her fondness for champagne.

It was in February 1970 that Mrs Brandman, acting as convenor, opened the inaugural meeting of the Accordion Society of Australia (ASA) at Rockdale Town Hall. President of the ASA was a position Mrs Brandman held from 1970 to 1983 then again from 1986 – 1995. With her determination and love for the accordion Mrs Brandman encouraged many children and teenagers into a love for music and new friendships.

This was particularly evident at the yearly festivals that traveled state to state. Through her international contacts members of the Accordion Society formed friendships with overseas accordionists and many of us had a chance to travel overseas and study.

Linked is an extract about her own life written by Else Brandman: Brandman extract.
