This week’s news is published on May 6th, World Accordion Day, the day designated by the Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) to celebrate the patenting of the accordion in Vienna, Austria, 1829 by Cyrillius Demien (Cyril Damian). Accordions Worldwide has been highlighting World Accordion Day events, and we know of many events happening internationally. My own contribution this year is the publication of a book, ‘Accordion Anthology’, which is published in the UK on May 6th and is available through Accordions Worldwide. However you spend World Accordion Day, I hope you enjoy your accordion music. In many respects the world we live in is a gloomy and serious place, and those of us who play the accordion have our own personal antidote in this wonderful and incredibly versatile instrument. The French express it beautifully when they say vive l'accordéon!! Rob Howard |
