International Accordion Festival, St Petersburg – Russiaby Harley Jones |
The International Accordion Festival, founded in 1985, aims to promote the development of world music performance skills at various levels (music schools, colleges, universities), to promote folk, classical and contemporary music by demonstrating the capabilities of the bayan and accordion. The festival takes place from November 2nd to 4th at The White Hall of the State Polytechnic University, 29 Politekhnicheskaya St, St Petersburg. The festival involves musicians not only from Russia but also many other countries. The Festival Director is Alexander Dmitriev (picture left), with the assistance of Vitaly Pugachev (picture right) and Maria Romanova. During the festival, in the lobby of The White Hall will be held an exposition Roland V-Accordion instruments, including the presentation of the new model FR-8X. On Saturday November 2nd, 3.30pm, the ensemble ‘Concertino’ (picture below) open the festival by performing in concert; on November 3rd, 3.30pm, Viktor Novikov (Perm, Russia) and Matthias Matzke (Trossingen, Germany) are in concert; on November 4th, 2pm, the festival ends with a Gala Concert.
