Achuapa International Music and Solidarity Festival, Achuapa - Nicaraguaby Rob Howard |
 The 8th annual Achuapa International Music and Solidarity Festival takes place on August 8th and 9th, involving professional and amateur musicians. During the day there is an arts and craft fair, and also horse racing, followed from 5pm onwards by music and dancing in the town centre and surrounding districts. Musical styles include everything from ragtime to reggae, with accordions featuring amongst all kinds of instruments.The entertainers came from different cities and villages in Nicaragua and countries such as the USA, Cuba, Brazil, Denmark, Chile, Spain, Scotland, England, and the Spanish Basque country. Local bands Don Felipe Urrutia y Sus Cachorros, Los Alegres de Santa Rosa, and Los Rusticos all feature accordionists, perform traditional folk music and contemporary songs, and are always popular.
