During the day, trade displays were being set up and the hall prepared with a number of officials and traders arriving the night before. Some love their accordion more than others as we can see in this picture of Raymond Bodell Jnr falling asleep, accordion ready at hand, to do some more practise! Love me, love my accordion!!!!

The jury meeting took place just prior to the opening concert. The official opening was on Friday night with the Grand Opening Gala Concert featuring an array of international stars including: Renzo Ruggieri, Mario D'Amario, Julian "Speedy" Gonzales, Grayson Masefield and Romany Rye.
 

 
Compere for the evening, Gina Brannelli (former NAO Chairperson) welcomed everyone and Romany Rye (Gina Brannelli and William Langton) opened the programme in front of a lovely backdrop of cups, music graphics and a large poster of the 2008 Coupe Mondiale. Picture below.

Mario D'Mario of Italy wowed the audience with talent and maturity way beyond his 16 years.
