8th Las Vegas International Accordion Convention - USA
The 8th annual Las Vegas International Accordion Convention to be held
June 18-21, 2007 at the Gold Coast Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada will
celebrate the first 100 years of the piano accordion in the United States.
It was one hundred years ago that the famous accordionist Pietro Deiro
claimed he played the first piano accordion built in America in 1907,
at the Washington Square Theatre in San Francisco.
This years event will feature performances by Jazz Legend, Art Van
Damme; Grammy Award Winner, Walter Ostanek (picture left); and four-time
International Champion, Peter
Soave (picture below) and others including Leo Aquino (Canada),
Gary Blair (United Kingdom), Tony Lovello, Mario Pedone, Soundscape
Trio, and young accordion star Sammy Thomas, Joe Domitrowich, Gina
Brannelli (United Kingdom), Gordon Kohl, Ron Borelli and more.
The
Las Vegas International Accordion Convention has attracted over 500
participants annually and has attracted attendance from around the
world as attendees enjoy concerts, workshops and friendship amongst
fellow accordionists.

Landa (accordion) and TESS (theatre troupe directed by Manolo
Gómez) will perform together on May 12th in Colegiata de Sta.

Anne Landa is holding a course titled Perfecting Accordion at the beginning of June at the Music School Soto Mesa in Madrid. This course is organized by the association Acco Land (Cultural Association for the diffusion of the accordion).

AGENDA
Pascal Contet will be holding two workshops at Werksttätte, Academies
d'ete Rouffach (Alsace) on 30 july and 8 Augustjuillet au 9 about
Repertoire and Improvisation.
The 6th National Accordion Festival was held in the small borough
of Termignon la Vanoise and again it did not fail to attract all around
the village of Savoie-Haute Maurienne. In the middle of the National
Park Vanoise, the atmosphere was excellent during all the week.
Both Daniels (G and Pollux) accommodated the festival accordionists
and took care of them during aperitif and evening hours. Two official
Gala concerts made it possible to present the artists to their public
accompanied by the orchestra of F Buch. Sunday, some of the enthusiastic
audience travelled more than 600 km to enjoy the show.

Closing ceremony with a bouquet of notes under fireworks, an ending
edition full of colours and splendid minutes of happiness with accordion

The
British College of Accordionists Spring Examination tour is currently
being undertaken on the small island of Malta in the Mediterranean.
The local Representative Mro Jo Psaila for the last 24 years states
“that whilst numbers may have reduced a little in that time,
the overall standard has improved”.
Local teacher in Attard, Marthese Busuttil Cassar LBCA has now been
conducting her ensemble for 20 years. She is pictured here with some
of her successful examination candidates this year. Christabel Zammit,
Cleve Zammit, Emanuel Gatt, Ambrose Bugeja Luca Custo, Myfanwy Cortis,
Luigi Sammut, Pamela Zahra.
The tour also provided the opportunity for BCA Principal Raymond Bodell to present the Sir James Anderton Award for Musical Excellence to its recipient for 2006 from Rabat, Mariel Agius seen here with her teacher Antoinette Borg.
Professor
at the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, Cao
Xiao-Qing (picture left) will lead a group of players and teachers
and parents to the 44th International Accordion Competition in Klingenthal
this May.
The Chinese group is hoping to represent their country and continue
the results of 2006 where they had huge success winning three major
solo age categories:
Category I (Soloists up to 12 years old):- 1st – Tian Jia Nan
( China);
Category II (Soloists up to 15 years old):- 1st – Wang Han Zhi
(China);
Category III (Soloists up to 18 years old):- 1st – Jiang Bo
Long (China).
Accordionist,
composer, pedagogue, Alexander Technique teacher Claudio
Jacomucci (picture right) is running a four-day master class (Acrobat
poster) open to all levels of accordionists, performers and teachers
in Urbino-Montesoffio from 22nd to 25th July, 2007.
The lessons will deal with individual concert or competition programs, advanced technique resources and the
Alexander Technique. The subscription fee for the workshop is 220 euros (viewers fee is 100 euros).
Places are limited.

Beginning 16 May and ending 28 May, Festival Wazemmes de laccordeon
2007 will feature many accordion performances.
This year our festival, while affirming its international character
with performers from Brazil, Colombia, Ukraine, Poland, Bélarusse,
Russia, Romania, Italy, and Germany.
Also featured are local performers, nationally famous, who are an
annual part of this festival of accordion music.
The
French label AEON is going to release in France on 10 May a new CD
by the group Quatuor Caliente, whose leader is French accordionist
/ bandeonist Guillaume Hodeau.
The CD is dedicated to Astor Piazzola's music, like the first CD by
this group.
This time Guillaume and the rest of the groupe invited an Argentinian
singer -Debora Russ- to record with them. The result is really terrific.
