The annual ‘Citta Di Castelfidardo’ Competition for soloists and groups takes place from October 12th to 15th. The competitions will take place in the following dates and times.
Participants must come to the Secretariat first to pay the subscription fee.
Competitors will perform in alphabetical order starting from the letter drawn and all the competition categories are open to the public. The timetables will be published the day before by the Secretariat.
The announcement and prize giving will take place as follows:-
Categories G, H, L: Thursday 12th October; 18.00 (Sala B = San Francesco)
Categories A, N, O, P, Q: Friday 13th October; 18.00 (Sala Convegni – Sala A)
Categories B, C, D: Saturday 14th October;18.00 (Sala Convegni – Sala A)
All the other categories and prizes are awarded: Sunday 15th October; 16.00 at the TEATRO ASTRA.
Performances by the winners of the various categories will be arranged by the organisers. Winners failing to participate in these concerts will not receive their prizes.
XXII International Accordion Music Festival, St Petersburg - Russia
The 22nd International Accordion Music Festival is to be held in St Petersburg from November 3rd to 5th. The well-known Russian performer and tutor Professor Alexander Dmitriev is the organizer and artistic director of the festival. This annual event has become a central part of the accordion life of St Petersburg.
This year the festival is to be held at the Glazunov Concert Hall - one of the best concert venues in St Petersburg. Artistes, who will be presented there for 2006 include: Jean-Louis Noton (France), Petri Makkonen (Finland), ensemble ‘Liritsa’ (Belarus), International competitions winners Yevgeny Kochetov, and Alexander Shirunov (Russia), as well as other accordionists.
The Australian Accordion Teachers Association Inc is proud to announce a new venue for its 2007 Australian International Accordion Championships and Festival. The entire event will be held at the prestigious ‘Club Marconi’, one of Sydney’s biggest and most luxurious club and concert complexes.
For 2007, the Australian International Accordion Championships and Festival event has added new international classes, which are already attracting strong interest with promised entries from Croatia, Bosnia and German contestants.
The dates, June 9th and 10th, are one week after the South Pacific Accordion Championships in Auckland, New Zealand, which has similar international class competition rules planned. For the international traveller from the Northern hemisphere, it usually costs very little more to travel to both New Zealand and Australia, enabling contestants to perform the same music in two different competitions only one week apart and have a great time at two fun festivals doing so.
The AATA Gala Concert, expected to be a highlight of the event, and will be held in the beautifully appointed Club Marconi Main Auditorium, where top Australian accordionists, ensembles and orchestras will be performing as well as the 2006 Coupe Mondiale Piano Accordion Champion and other international guests.
Laurent Jarry, proprietor of La Boite D'Accordéon in Montreuil recently received the Regional Award of the Dynamique Artisanale ‘ARTINOV 2006’.
This award is in recognition of the talent, performance and contribution of a craftsman using his talent. In March 2006, the Arts Traders Association appointed Laurent Jarry a Master Craftsman for the accordion.
On September 15th, The Paraná Accordion Club organized a recital in the auditorium of the Asociación Médica, España y Tucumán. The concert featured leading Argentinean accordionist Ildo Patriarch, and Quique Sosa, from Buenos Aires.
Ildo Patriarch is considered one of the leading teachers and performers, and his repertoire covers an extensive variety of styles, that includes tango, traditional folk music and jazz. Quique Sosa participated in the international competition in Castelfidardo, Italy, and was also the winner of the national contest in Argentina in 2004.
The Paraná Accordion Club formed recently for the purpose of promoting the various styles of the instrument and is strongly supported by Raúl Barbosa and Ildo Patriarch. The activities of the group will extend to master classes and workshops, and the foundation of an orchestra is foreseen in the near future.

Scholarships were awarded to Abigail Wills, George Xu, Christopher Thwaites & Travis McWalter (picture above right). The Douglas Mews Rosebowl ‘for excellence” was given to Campbell Thwaites. The 2006 recipient of the Annual Merit Award was Lorraine Parnell (picture above left), honouring her for over 30 years of teaching, performing and supporting the accordion movement in New Zealand.

Accordionist Davide Bonetti performs solo concerts at cultural evenings Osteria del Rosmarino, Cattaneo 24 Brescia from September 22nd to 29th, and October 6th, all performances begin at 10 pm.
The annual Charity Accordion Concert, promoted by Ray Burgon, takes place on September 23rd takes place at St Mary’s Church, Bramall Lane, Sheffield. The concert, which begins at 7pm, features accordionists Rosemary Wright, George Syrett, Harry Hussey, the Petulengoes, Andrew and Rachel Hesselwood, David Tomlin, and the Sheffield Accordion Band.
The Ferndorftal-Wilden Youth Accordion Orchestra, under the direction of Jutta Clerk-Menn, performs on September 24th, at 11am, in the Bürgerhaus Müsen. The program includes, for example, evergreens such as ‘Biscaya’, a Bee Gees medley and the compositions of John Miles. The concert will be followed by lunch and a social for the musicians, their families and guests.
Universidad Pedagogica Accordion Ensemble Concert, Bogotà - Colombia
The concert fearuring the Accordion Ensemble of Universidad Pedagogica, conducted by Professor Làcides Romero, to be held in Centro Cultural of Universidad Pedagògica- Bogotà, takes place on September 28th, 6pm.
The performers are: Giovanni Parra, Augusto Salamanca, Salustiano Bueno, Rodrigo Romero and Jonathan Agudelo. The concert includes American music: 2 Negro Spirituals, (traditional), 4 Cuban dances, (Ignacio Cervantes), ‘Hacia Tì va mi Alma’ (Argentinean Waltz), ‘Libertango’ (Astor Piazzolla), ‘El Choclo’ (Angel Villoldo), and ‘La Cumparsita’ (Mattos Rodriguez).
The Beijing Children's Palace Bai Di Accordion Orchestra, with 30 musicians, will perform a ‘Grand Concert d'Accordeon’ on September 30th at 8.30pm in the City Hall Theater, La Bourboule. Free Entrance. This concert is organised in collaboration with Nathalie Boucheix from CNIMA in France.
Accordionist and vocalist Steve Albini will be appearing at the Madonna del Lume Celebration at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco on October 1st. The celebration was brought to San Francisco over sixty years ago by Sicilian immigrants, and the annual celebration concludes with the blessing of the fishing fleet.
On October 6th Steve will be performing solo at the Columbus Day Civic Celebration in San Rafael, California. This celebration is sponsored by the Cristofo Colombo Club of Marin.
On October 15th the Steve Albini Trio will be headlining the North Bay Italian Cultural Society’s Festa Italiana in Santa Rosa, California. The trio consists of Steve Albini on the Roland V-Accordion, the ‘Concerto’ digital/acoustic accordion, guitar and vocals, Dave Albini on MIDI and acoustic accordions and trumpet, and Jim Lehmann on drums and percussion.
Steve Albini and friends will be performing November 17th and 18th in Ciao Italia, a concert to benefit the Tomales High School Italian Exchange Program. The performances will take place at the Tomales Historical Center and Museum in Tomales, California.
After his participation at the Salon du Musique in Paris the ‘colorful’ and most entertaining French accordion artiste Jean-Louis Noton will also be present at the showroom of Cavagnolo during the Città di Castelfidardo, October 12th to 15th, where he as usual will be entertaining people passing through the tiny roads of the city.
EMtrad School of Traditional Music, Águeda - Portugal
The EMtrad School of Traditional Music based in Águeda offers courses of tuition to a high level on accordion and other instruments, concentrating on folk music.
