'Lifetime
Achievement Award' for Frank Marocco, New Jersey - USA

A
'Lifetime Achievement Award' will be presented to Frank Marocco on
June 4th by the American
Accordionists' Association who are organizing the
event and presenting the award.
The award dinner will be held at the La Fiesta Restaurant in Wood-Ridge,
New Jersey, including cocktails at 12:noon, presentations at 12.45,
then dinner and entertainment at 1.15pm.
Guest performers include Nick Ballarini, Tony
Dannon and Joe Cerrito, the US Army Strings, featuring Manny Bobenrieth on accordion. A particular highlight will be Frank Marocco and Eddie
Monteiro performing together.
Frank Marocco is without doubt one of the most respected accordionists
active at the present time. His career has taken him around the world,
and he has also played on the soundtracks of over Hollywood 450 movies,
plus a large number of television shows and commercials.
International Accordion Championships, Sydney - Australia Contributed by Tania

The
13th Australian International Accordion Championships and Festival
organized by the AATA will take place in Sydney on May 27th and
28th of May.
The Championships part of the event will take place on the 27th
of May with the competitors from New Zealand, Australia and Croatia.
Jury members will include: Elizabeth Jones (Australia), Sarah
Langley (NZ), Cathy Day (Australia), Alexander
Shirunov (Russia) and Marjan Krajna (Croatia).

Lukic-Marx are a new feature of the event and any interested
accordionists can participate.
One of the most popular features of the event is
the Gala Concert, which will take place on May 28th at 2pm. Guest
artistes include Alexander
Shirunov - current Coupe Mondiale Piano Accordion world champion,
the Australian Concert Ensemble, the ASA Orchestra and solo accordionist
Enzo Giribaldi.

William Schimmel's AAA Master Class and Concert, New York - USA

The
American Accordionists'
Association Master Class and Concert Series will be moving into
its 12th year. It is moderated and organized by William
Schimmel, who received the CIA Merit Award in conjunction with
the 10th anniversary of 'The Seminars' - the term used by participants
and the New York artistic community, which it was initially designed
for. The three-day event will take place on July 28th, 29th and
30th at the Tenri Cultural Institute of New York, and this year's
title is HA HA! WA WA! THE ACCORDION CAN KILL YOU!
Mexico's
Trio Zur in Concert tour of Guatemala

The
Trio Zur, a Mexican group whose members are accordionist Antonio
Barberena accordion, Javier Nandayapa on marimba and percussionist
Mirna Yam, carried out a concert tour of Guatemala. The tour included
concerts in the cities of San Pedro Sucatepéquez, Quetzaltenango
and in the National Theater Miguel Angel Asturias in the capital
Guatemala City before an audience of 1300 people. The Trio Zur's
repertoire included music by the composers Astor Piazzolla, Richard
Galliano, Kepa Junkera, Jovan Zivkovic, Rodolfo Mederos, as well
as of Mexican and Irish composers. Their first titled CD 'Firedance'
will be released in the autumn of 2006.

Ruggieri's Seminars and Concerts, Castelfranco Veneto - Italy

Ruggieri recently led two seminars on the topic of jazz accordion,
concentrating on non-academic aspects of playing.
These took place at the Agostino Steffani Conservatory in Castelfranco
Veneto, and were followed by performance of 'Solo Accordion Project'
by Renzo
Rugieri.
First
Ukrainian International Accordion Festival 'Accoholiday', Kiev - Ukraine

From
the April 28th to May 3rd the first Ukrainian International Accordion
Festival and Championships 'Accoholiday' took place in the beautiful
city of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The organizer of the event is
a famous Ukrainian accordion artiste and entertainer, Professor Jan
Tabachnik.
The event was superbly organized with the generous funds for the competitors,
guests and adjudicators. There was no competition entry fee and all
the competitors were provided with the free accommodation and meals
for the duration of the whole event.
The Competition was divided into the two categories: Classical and Entertainment.
The winner of the Classical Category was Evegenij Kochetov (pictured)
and the winner of the Entertainment Category was Bojan Jovanovic.
The event had a high number of competitors, with the jury divided
into the two categories: classical and entertainment. Jury members
included: Jab Tabachnik(Ukraine), Vladimir
Besfamilnov (Ukraine) - the Chairman of the Jury , Radomir Tomich
(Serbia), Jurij Sidorov (Russia), Anatolij Semeshko (Ukraine), Eduardus
Gabnys (Lithuania), Richard Galliano(France), Mirco
Patarini (Italy) , Tania
Lukic-Marx (Australia), Viktor Vlasov (Ukraine), Jurij Jastrebov
(Russia), Valerij Kovtun (Russia), Vladimir Rozhok (Ukraine).
The Festival part of the event included two concerts with performers
such as Richard Galliano, Jurij Sidorov, Eugenie Kochetov, Valerij
Kovtun, Quartet 'Rizol', and Duet 'Moscow', etc. The concerts were
well received with the standing ovations.
During the event, an 'International Higher League of Accordion Artistes'
was formed and registered in Kiev, the President of which is Jan Tabachnik
and the members include the accordion artistes from Russia (Jurij
Sidorov, Jurij Jatrebov, Valerij Kovtun), Australia (Tania
Lukic-Marx), Ukraine (Jan Tabachnik, Vladimir
Besfamilnov, Viktor Vlasov, Anatolij Semeshko, Vladimir Rozhok),
Italy (Mirco
Patarini), France (Richard Galliano), Serbia (Radomir Tomich),
and Lithuania (Eduardus Gabnys). Each member was presented with the
Certificate to testify that he/she is the owner of the STAR denomination
from the constellation 'LIRA' (Catalogue of the 'Space-Earth', Moscow,
Russia, President of J.S.C. pilot-cosmonaut German Titov).

Cauteruccio's Musical Activities Around Italy Contributed

Cauteruccio has recently been performing in several Italian regions
with his two ensembles: 'Acoustic Music Ensemble', with Peter Perrone
- violin, Enzo Campaign - guitar, and the 'Aperitif Jazz Quartet'
with Salvatore Barbuscio - bass, Sirufo Angel - drums, Enzo Campaign
- guitar.
The concert of May 1st in Lungomare di Diamante (CS) with the A.J.Q
where the group had also been a great success with their concert
there on the April 26th at the Auditorium I.T.C. 'A.Sacco' in Sant'
Arsenio, where the accordionist in the trio A.M.E. exhibited himself
in front of four hundred young people in order to promote the culture
of the accordion.

A concert featuring Heinrich Biegenzahn - free bass accordion,
clarinet and saxophone - takes place on May 17th, at 7pm, at the Urania
Club, 1011 Vienna, Uraniastrasse 1. Also involved are Zsuzsa Varga
- piano, and accordionists Nenad Gajic, Valentin Sützl and Sebastian
Novak.

Klucevsek Concert, Bordeaux - France

American composer and accordionist Guy
Klucevsek will be in residence in Bordeaux, May 17th to 19th,
sponsored by Musique de Nuits. Klucevsek
will perform a solo concert, featuring selections from his Winter
& Winter CD, 'The Well-Tampered Accordion'; perform his composition,
'Four Portraits', inspired by Michael Cunningham's novel, 'The Hours',
accompanied by a reading of selections from the novel; and present
a duo concert with Alan Bern (accordion, piano).
Following the residency, Guy Klucevsek and Alan Bern will record their
second CD for Winter & Winter (following their highly-regarded
2000 release, 'Accordance') in a vineyard outbuilding in the St. Emilion
region.

Carra and ZUM in World Music Festival Concert, London - UK

St
Martin's-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, London, presents its first
acoustic World Music Festival in the last week of May. The first concert,
on May 20th, presents the virtuosic talents of Zum, featuring Edward
Hession on accordion, and Italy's award-winning accordion virtuoso
Mauro Carra. St Martin's-in-the-Fields is an Anglican church with
a long established reputation for music - both Handel and Mozart performed
there!
Zum,
a highly acclaimed gypsy tango band, combine the fire and brilliance
of Eastern European gypsy fiddle music with the hot-blooded passion
of Argentinean Tango. ZUM's new show includes 'Nuevo Tango' masterpieces
by Astor Piazzolla and music from the golden era of tango, alongside
addictive traditional gypsy melodies and dazzling virtuoso fiddling.
The band adds its own compelling original material, inspired by both
gypsy and tango, sophisticated threads of jazz connected with gypsy,
celtic, salsa, bluegrass, klezmer, Arabic, calypso and tango to create
a stunning new sound. Zum's performance begins at 7.30pm.
Virtuoso accordionist Mauro Carra, from Italy, performs at 10pm. Mauro
Carra is currently one of Italy's hottest young talents, has recently
toured the UK, has released a new CD titled 'I need You', performed
for films, and won competitions in various countries.
A
musical show titled 'Paris Est Un Escargot' takes place at the Theatre
Michel Galabru, 2 rue de l'Armée, 75018 Paris, on May 24th,
27th and 31st, and June 3rd, at 2.30pm. The performers are Béatrice
Fontaine - vocals, Daniel Denecheau - guitar, and Alexandre Leitao
- accordion.
MUSICFEST
2006 Cancelled, Luzniki - Russia

The
event set to take place in Luzniki, Russia, May 26th to 28th, known
as MUSICFEST 2006, has been cancelled due to financial problems. American
accordionist Jon Hammond was one of the scheduled guest performers.
Leith
Community Concert Band, a military band, conducted by Frederick Frayling-Kelly,
feature accordionist Shane Brogan as guest soloist. The band's repertoire
will feature Shane performing with them, as well as him performing
solo.
The concert takes place on June 8th at St Thomas'-Junction Road Church,
Great Junction Street, Edinburgh, Scotland, starting at 7.30pm.
The
Dolci Romori Jazz Festival takes place from June 7th to 10th, directed
by Renzo
Ruggieri. On June 7th, at the Teatro Comunale in Atri, at 9.30pm,
Renzo Ruggieri will perform his 'Solo Accordion Project' show.
