Accordions
Worldwide Office Manager Tatiana
Lanchtchikova has now returned from a successful concert tour
of both the North and South Islands of New Zealand. Tatiana performed
at popular and well attended festivals in Auckland and Nelson with
well known New Zealand singer/songwriter Don McGlashan, "Bravura"
and " Vivo". The group also made several television appearances.
It is great to see the accordion receiving such positive exposure
in New Zealand
Excellent
TV promotion of our instrument is also happening in many other countries
and it was interesting, that a Special Award was given to Giuliano
Cameli last weekend at the Castelfidardo
Festival. This award was for his TV performances in many different
countries including Finland, Venuzeula, Australia, and Canada.

1st
Prague Accordion Festival Czech Republic

The 1st Prague
Accordion Competition and Festival was held successfully in Prague
on October 3rd and 4th. Over 250 musicians from four countries participated
in four different competition categories.
The Prako Accordion
Orchestra won the Accordion Ensemble category with the "Adamsi"
Ensemble Vrhniki (Slovenia) taking prizes in the orchestra categories.
International
jury members L Horák and P. Trojan (Czech republic) and R.
Kákoni (Slovakia) awarded golden diplomas and complimented
the winners on their performances. Sebastian Hahn, conductor of
the Theilheim Accordion Orchestra was awarded the conductor prize.
High achievements
were presented to accordion orchestras from the Musikschule Marienbad
(Czech Republic) and Musikschule Smederevo (Serbia).
The 2nd festival
will be held from from May 27th to 29th, 2005 with the same categories

International
Accordion Festival USA
The 2003 International
Accordion Festival will be held at the beautiful La Villita
Plaza, on the banks of the San Antonio River in historic downtown
San Antonio, Texas on October 18th and 19th. The event, which includes
entertainment on multiple stages outdoors is free of charge and
organized by International Accordion Festival staff, City of San
Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs and the Witte Museum staff.
This year twenty
ensembles will play music from around the globe: Cajun, Merengue,
Zydeco, Conjunto, Klezmer, Vallenato, French Canadian, Basque, Irish
music and more. The
accordion will be presented in many flavors - the bandoneón,
concertina and piano accordion, to name only a few.
Performers
include John Williams (concertina, flute, and button box player),
Dean Magraw (guitar) and Mark Stone (percussion), Terrance Simien
& The Mallet Playboys, Yuri Yunakov Ensemble, Aniceto Molina,
The Gypsies, Don Lipovac Orchestra, Joaquin Diaz and Shati, Los
Dos Gilbertos, Glovertango, Conjunto Aztlan, Ginny Mac & Tonic,
Jubilee Polka Band, Touch of Cajun, Serge Laîné &
Friends and Los Dos Gilbertos.
In addition
the festival will include a variety of workshops highlighting various
music styles, accordion construction workshops and an Open Mike
moderated by Laura Niland.

Accordionist Tours Israel
The Klaus Paier Trio,
which includes Klaus Paier (accordion & bandoneon), Stefan Gfrerer
(bass) and Roman Werni (drums) will tour Israel from November 4th to 8th.
The trio will perform with the Israel Sinfonietta at their first concert
in Beer Sheva on November 4th. This will be followed by performances in
Jerusalem (6th), Givatayim (7th) and Raanana (8th). For details email:

Tränen, Tabak & Tequila Tour Germany

Popular group
HISS which features accordionist Stefan Hiss is currently
touring Germany during October and November. Concerts will be held
in Oelde, Lauenbrück, Besigheim, Meidelstetten, Hof, Griesheim,
Aschersleben and Bad Oeynhausen. As part of this tour, the group
will present their new CD at the Theaterhaus in Stuttgart on November

Accordionist Featured on Worldwide Radio Broadcast - USA
Accordionist
Jon Hammond had music from his CD Hammond's Bolero featured
on a worldwide
radio broadcast on VOA (Voice Of America) during Doug Levine's "Border
Crossings Show" on October 11th.
This week Jon
will travel to China for two concerts in the jazz club of the famous
Portman Ritz Carlton Hotel together with musical director Danny
Woody and some very special musicians from Shanghai. These concerts
will take place on October 17th & 18th in association with the
International Music China event.

With Symphony Orchestra Spain

Accordionist
Raúl Álvarez performed in four concerts with the Symphony
Orchestra of Castile and León on September 26th & 27th
and October 2nd & 3rd. The concerts were held in Leon, Soria
and Valladolid. Their program included Jazz Suite No 2 (Shostakovich)
where the composer specially included unusual instruments such as
four saxophones, guitar and accordion.

6th Ball Tango Argentino Germany
The 6th annual Ball
Tango Argentino will be held in the Wuppertal historical ballroom
on October 18th. The event will include a display of over 140 bandoneons,
CDs, jewellery, dance shoes and art related to the tango. In addition
there will be a variety of shows, concerts and workshops. Performers include
Orquesta Ttipíca Silencio with bandoneonists Rainer Volkenborn

Music and Dance from Egypt and Turkey - USA
The Aywah!
Dance Company will perform music and dance from Egypt, Turkey, and
the Turkish and Balkan Roma at two events this month. The first will be
held at The Dance Palace, Point Reyes Station, California on October 24th
and the second at Open Secret in San Rafael, California on October 25th.

Featured on National Television - Australia
Visually impaired
virtuoso accordionist Bernadette
Conlon, was featured on Australia's ABC National Television
Network on October 5th. Bernadette was accompanied by five members
of the Melbourne Musicians String Ensemble playing Concert
Waltz by New Zealand composer Gary
Daverne and Oblivion by Piazzolla.
The television
appearance was a promotion for their Wednesday night concert in
Melbourne with the full Melbourne String Orchestra conducted by
Frank Pam. The Melbourne Herald Sun also included a
feature article about Bernadette Conlon and the concert.
A large enthusiastic
and appreciative audience enjoyed the performance, which included
the work Concerto for Bernadette by Australian composer
Michael Easton. Composer/conductor Gary
Daverne was invited to Melbourne and conducted his composition
Concert Waltz.

Tango
Orchestra Performance Argentina

Inspiracion,
the first Tango Orchestra of Argentine Jews performed at the "Paso
Sinagoge" in Buenos Aires on October 16th. The group comprises
of seven young gifted musicians and vocalists who performed with
guest singer Susana Rinaldi.
Members include
Luciano Jungman (bandoneon), Ruben Slonimsky (bandoneon), Andres
Linetzky (director & pianist), Adolfo Halsband (violin), Alejandro
Schaikis (violin), Daniela Schuster (cello) and Ignacio Varchausky
(double bassoon).

Dance Performance - USA
Popular group
Edessa (named after a town in northern Greece) will
perform at Ashkenaz in Berkeley,
California on October 22nd. The group, which includes Lise Liepman
(accordion & santouri), Dan Auvil (tupan, doumbek and defi),
Paul Brown (bass), George Chittenden (clarinet, saxophone, gaida
& guitar) and Ari Langer (violin) perform dance music from Macedonia,
Bulgaria, Albania and Greece.
At this performance
Edessa will be joined by Balkan vocalist Brenna Maccrimmon.
