Sunday 9th September

Manfred Leuchter and Ulrich Schmuelling of Intermusik Newspaper and Karthause Schmuelling Publications. Arthur Squindo of Switzerland, former general distributor for Hohner Accordions for Switzerland. The business was renowned for their promotion of the Hohner products and the large success they had, particularly in the accordion market.
Mrs Squindo (Heidi Wild) also attended the event, a well known personality herself, and still regularly appearing on radio programs in Switzerland.

All around Trossingen are reminders of the importance of the Hohner business. Many buildings and other areas are named after Hohner.

Another example. The famous Hohner Konservatorium Trossingen was part of the celebrations too, so we made a visit.
Different orchestras were shown rehearsing. At the Konservatorium was Karl Perenthaler and his wife. Karl was famous for being a soloist of the Hohner Accordion Orchestra at the time of Rudolf Wuerthner in the late 1940's and early 1950's.
Supervising was Hohner Konservatorium Director Erik Hoerenberg. There was some nice promotional information on display for visitors to read.
The Art of Accordion quintet performed next. The have enjoyed successes at the recent Coupe Mondiale competitions in Washington and the Innsbruck World Music event. It is interesting that one of the players, Michaela Hepp, is also in the Triple Sweet pop group, performing last night, showing great versatility of the accordion and the Konservatorium students. There was a special ceremony and concert for the cutting of the Birthday Cake.
Dr. Horst Bräuning led the way having the ceremonial first taste of the birthday cake to wish the Hohner Company all success for the future. Left to right: Kun S. Chen, Mrs. and Mr. Braeuning. A toast to the future success by Erik Hoerenberg (leader of the Hohner Konservatorium) and Martin Haeffner (Leader of the Hohner Museum).
Stefan Althoff, Managing Director of Sonor and Ulrich Schmuelling. In the Hohner big top tent, there were concerts going on by local orchestras and groups.
A huge number of supporters and workers for lunch again as everyone geared up for the big world record attempt with harmonicas at 4pm. Mickael Vigneau put on a very popular after lunch show in the Hohner big tent that had the crowds really packed in and enjoying fine accordion music.
The people crowded into the tent to watch the popular Mikael playing popular music for the crowds. See all the crowd standing to watch. Nice to see the families of Hohner Executives all there having a great time enjoying the fine music and festival too.

The New World record for Harmonica Players (Harp Orchestra) is now 3,898 players !!!!!
Tremendous Success for Hohner 150th Celebration Event

These photos were taken from the stage. You can see a part of the huge crowd of supporters who came from all around Trossingen area to support the Hohner company achieve the World Record for harmonicas.

The photo below shows the other half of Trossingen City Square. What you cannot see, is further to the right, out of view from the stage, are at least another 1 - 2,000 people down the side street. Wonderful support .

The record attempt was well organised with a special song written, that was easy to play, a happy catchy tune, that sounded really nice at various tempi.

Each person registered, they could get a special red harmonica made for this event if they did not own a harmonica and you can see them holding these red harmonicas in the photos. Those registered, also got a red sticky label which you can see many of the people wearing on their left chest.

The atmosphere was awesome with everyone having fun, and even the city officials, important politicians and Hohner executives playing the harmonicas on stage, having lots of fun with the music, jumping up and down, cheering, a real party atmosphere, especially when the numbers announced were well over the record.

The festivities finished off with a fireworks display with even the Hohner Logo being in the fireworks. A really nice way to end a very enjoyable and successful weekend.
