New Volume of Popular Book Released on World Accordion Day
The latest in this popular series is now available. ‘An A to Z of the Accordion, Volume 4’, by Rob Howard, was published in the UK on May 6th, to coincide with World Accordion Day. This book is yet another resource of accordion related articles and biographies, and is fully illustrated throughout. Some of the articles are contributed by guest writers.

Fairkytes Accordion Club Celebrates World Accordion Day
 The Fairkytes Accordion Club consists of about 30 members, of whom 12 play concerts in aid of charity as the Fairkytes Accordion Band. Whilst the Band rehearses each week, the 1st Wednesday is reserved for Club Night.
Wednesday, May 6th, World Accordion Day and the birthday of one of the Club founders, was a Club Night with a guest artist Gennaro Fiondella, from Worthing in Sussex, is well-known to many of the members as a composer/arranger for the accordion and as one of the tutors at the popular Eastbourne Accordion weekends which they attend twice a year. Club members who had been enjoying a “busk” welcomed him by playing his arrangement of the old standard “Take Good Care of my Baby” by Goffin and King.
Gennaro’s program consisted of many favorites, like Fisarmonca Impazzita and compositions by the Deiro’s (including the overture Trieste), Frosini and other famous accordionists of the past. He also played more modern, popular songs and dance tunes and several of his own transcriptions (such as Zerbino). In this way he was able to satisfy the varying preferences of the members.
It was a typical and thoroughly enjoyable evening. A short interval gave Members a chance to read the reports of World Accordion Day celebrations in Stockport, China and New Zealand and to take refreshments. As usual, a raffle with some good prizes was held.
The evening ended, as it always does, with Members continuing their mass busk, with Gennaro joining in, and finishing with the Club’s signature piece, the march “The Big Parade” a march by J. Reilly. |
