The
concert is aimed to spread awareness about Accordion
in this part of the world. In India the Accordion was
introduced through films by the noted film maker Raj
Kapoor. There were number of accordionists that developed
from 1950 - 1970 in India as the film industry was booming
and there was a great demand. The Indian Films have
songs at there heart and a lot of these songs had accordion
played in the back ground. However since the advent
of synthesiser this art has dwindled in INDIA.
There is a tradition of playing the songs from these
old movies on this instrument. I will be reviving this
tradition also by giving the history of Accordion through
a presentation. The topics would range from:
- Accordion History, how the name was coined and the
birth
- History of the Paolo Soprani's
- Accordion factories
- Types of Accordions
- Accordion Mechanism (How it works!)
- Journey of this instrument in India |

recently made unique 4 part TV documentary ‘The
World Accordion to Phil’, presented by accordionist
Phil Cunningham, shown weekly on BBC 2 Scotland in
March, will now be shown in sequence on the BBC HD
Channel, from 11.05pm on May 6th - World Accordion
Day! BBC HD Channel is a digital channel, broadcast
to all UK & Northern Ireland.
The programs look at the accordion and its origins
in an international context by visiting China, Austria,
Italy Spain, Ireland, France, Rumania, Russia, the
Czech Republic, USA, Brazil, and Argentina –
exploring local accordion traditions. Phil Cunningham
meets Robert Rolston, Count Robert Deiro, Marcel Azzola,
Viatcheslav Semionov, Sharon Shannon, Joe Burke, Flaco
Jimenez, Marc Savoy, and various others during his
travels. He also gets to join in with some of the
players he meets, and the shows present a variety
of accordion styles from around the world.

United Kingdom Accordion Championships 2011 are running
from 13th to 15th May in Blackpool. Fridays sees the
Roland V Accordion UK finals and the CIA qualification
competitions, with Saturday and Sunday being dedicated
to an aray of sections - solo competitions ranging from
aged sections (7 & under, 9 & under etc), graded
sections (introductory to advanced), polka, musette
and traditional scottish sections, group and orchestral
sections. Hosted by the National Accordion Organisation
(NAO), this annual Championshipsl gives players of all
ages and standards to come together after qualifying
at regional festivals a chance to compete and and catch
up with friends not seen throughout the year. Saturday
night gives everyone a chance to let their hair down
with a Celidh/Disco taking place. Overall, it promises
to be an enjoyable weekend as always. |

Worldwide. Horace Lazzari is a concert accordionist
from Walla, Walla Washington who performed throughout
the USA as a virtuoso artist.
He is also known for having given the first performance
with a symphony orchestra(Walla, Walla Symphony Orchestra}
of Eugene Ettore's "Manhattan Concerto" in
April of 1961. 2011 is the 50th Anniversary of his performance.
