On Wednesday May 6th, at 7:00 PM, for the first time in Guatemala, an accordionists gathering was held in celebration of the World Accordion Day.
The event took place at the Alliance Française located in Guatemala City, where eighteen accordionists, some of them from different towns around the country, came to perform and participate to the event. The performers played solo music of different genres ranging from Tango to Musette, from Bolero to Classical music.
Accordionist Luis Gonzalez Arocha had the idea and vision to organize and coordinate the event allowing accordionists from Guatemala to partake in this worldwide celebration. Together with L. Gonzalez Arocha and Jorge Herrera from the Alliance Française, they invited other accordionists to attend the meeting and to promote public awareness of the accordion in Guatemala.
Accompanied by wine and snacks, accordionists and and the general public showed great enthusiasm for this celebration, which was an outstanding opportunity to share experiences, and to listen and play wonderful music.
The meeting concluded with the performance of Guatemalan folk music, by the participating accordionists.
