![]() Die NZAA Südpazifik Akkordeon Meisterschaften & Festival 2019 finden an diesem Wochenende (1. und 2. Juni) im Raye Freedman Arts Centre in Auckland statt und feiern den "10. ![]() The following day there was a parade with colourful costumes and floats, marching bands, celebrities, public officials, motorcycles, horseback riders and clowns. During the festival performances were given by 15 different bands and soloists including “Squeezebox” (featuring Ted Lange & Mollie B), accordionist Alex Meixner (who plays a wide variety of musical genres from classical to jazz to pop to world music), Jodie Mikula Orchestra (which includes accordionists Mike Marek & Joe Zetka), Fritz Hodde and "The Fabulous Six" (picture left which includes accordionists Fritz Hodde, Scott Hodde, Brandon Hodde, Diane Hodde & Gary Greener). the Czech Harvesters Band (who are in their 40th year of performing "Texas-Style Czech Music"), and the Moravians Polka Band who enjoy playing polka music and includes accordionists Chris Trojacek, Matthew Matous and Tyler Prasifka. |

![]() Gary Daverne veröffentlicht an diesem Wochenende ein neues Album mit dem Titel "Koriana" bei den Südpazifischen Akkordeon Meisterschaften 2019. Alle Details werden nach der Veröffentlichung am Sonntag zu diesem Artikel hinzugefügt. Katalog: nzom005 Koriana CD / Album In dem obigen Video spielt Grayson „Tango 130 (For Stephanie)“. Dies war eine besondere Komposition für die langjährige Freundin Stephanie Poole, die als neuseeländische Akkordeonmeisterin viele von Garys Akkordeonkompositionen aufführte und aufnahm. Die 130 repräsentiert das Tempo, mit dem Grayson sie aufnehmen wollte. Gary wollte 128 oder 132. " |

Members of the jury were Sylvain Tissot (President), Sylvie Amadio, Cristina Bellu, Thierry Bouclier, Stéphane Chapuis, Véronique Chapuis-Fernandez, Anne-Maria Hoelscher, Florine Juvet, Rade Mijatovic, Tiffanie Mueller, Julien Tudisco and Aline Roy. Over 180 accordion players took part in the competition. Winner of the top class was Laura Mehmeti (picture left), a student of Sylvain Tissot at the Conservatoire de Musique de la Broye. The next Swiss Accordion Competition will take place in 2021. |

At his performance for the Washington Metropolitan Accordion Society on May 19, Cody McSherry performed the 'Ballad of Faithe' composed by Guy Klucevsek in honor of the famous Faithe Deffner (USA) who was very prominent in USA accordion activities and also internationally for many years until her death in 2014. Cody McSherry is fifteen years old and is a sophomore at Lancaster Catholic High School in Lancaster, PA. He has been playing accordion since the age of six. Cody is studying accordion with Mary Tokarski (in Connecticut) and voice with Joanne Abrom. n 2016, Cody won the Lancaster’s Got Talent competition held by Lancaster Newspapers and is a two-time winner of the Carmen Carrozza Scholarship, Junior Division, held by the American Accordionists’ Association. In November 2018 Cody performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Millennium Stage in Washington, DC. |

The Kosmos Ensemble which includes classical accordionist Miloš Milivojevic, Harriet MacKenzie (violin) and Meg Hamilton (viola) will perform a concert on June 5th at 1.30pm at the Bridgewater Hall (Barbirolli Room), Lower Mosley Street, Manchester M2 3WS. The trio will play a mix of classical, world music, Jazz, Gypsy, emotive Jewish music, hot-blooded tango, Arabic and Turkish improvisations. Sharon Shannon will perform with her band at Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Hope Street, Liverpool L1 9BP on June 14th. The group which includes Jim Murray (acoustic guitar), Jack Maher (electric guitar, vocals) and Sean Regan (fiddle, percussion and beatbox), will perform music from Sharon’s many albums throughout the years, including “Sacred Earth”. This album features many tracks with African influences and includes African musicians as collaborators and guests. This concert is part of their Sacred Earth UK Tour 2019 and includes guest musician Senegalese Kora player, Seckou Keita (pictured). Popular band “Mabon”, which includes Jamie Smith (accordion & vocals), Oliver Wilson-Dickson (fiddle & vocals), Ron Juppy (guitar & vocals), Matt Downer (electric & upright basses & vocals) and Iolo Whelan (drums, percussion & vocals) will make their first ever appearance at the opening day of the Gwyl Criccieth Festival on June 15th in Gwynedd, Wales. The annual festival will run from June 15th to 22nd and include a variety of music, art, painting, ceramics and sculpture. Mabon play a mix of traditional and contemporary Celtic/Folk/World music. On June 14th a concert entitled “Accordion Meets Classical” will be held at the Castel Fontana in Tyrol, Italy. Solo and group performers include students from the Hohner Konservatorium in Trossingen, Germany who will play compositions by Bach, Haydn, Ligeti and Mussgorsky. Their program includes Partita B Major (Bach), Sonata in D Major (Haydn) and Tango-Toccata by Petri Makkonen. For further details see poster above. |

On June 15th a concert entitled “Traditional Meets Modern” will be held in Palais Mamming, Merano, Italy. Accordionist Vanja Cirkovic will perform with the "Chamber Orchestra Innstrumenti Tirol". This concert ensures the combination of the important chamber music genre of string quartet with the modern accordion promises concert goers an exciting listening experience. Their program includes works by Mozart (Adagio and Rondo KV 617 for accordion & String Quartet), Dvorak (1st movement "Allegro ma non Troppo" from the "American Quartet" Op. 96), Haydn (Sonata in D Major for accordion solo), and Soler (Quintet in F major for accordion & string quartet). ![]() ![]() The festival will begin with 2 x concerts on June 27th, followed by a free gala concert in the city centre the next day. This will include a performance by over 100 accordionists which will be broadcast live on the internet. Festival guests include Jean Louis Noton (picture right) and Vincent Tsai (Taiwan – picture left) who will play in duo with Sylvia Hsu at St. John's Church. ![]() ![]() The festival was started several years ago and is supported by accordionists from all around the UK who meet up and join in with several different Musical Directors of orchestras. Attendees are guided through a week of ensemble playing with the option to join whichever graded orchestra or group they feel comfortable with. Orchestra workshops include Higher Intermediate section by Rene Mairis, Vintage Accordion Orchestra by Jean Hanger (picture left), Intermediate Orchestra by Sammie Peckover, Elementary Orchestra by Brenda Webster , the Scottish Workshop by Angie Lukins (picture right) and a small advanced group will be tutored by Lisa Lee Fisher. Nigel Pasby compères the evening accordion entertainment where participants can play their party pieces. These evenings finish with a performance by the orchestra directors or special guest. A French Circle evening will be held on Monday July 15th and a Ceilidh on Wednesday July 17th, with a final grand concert on Friday 19th July. For further information email: info@staudriesbay.co.uk |
