30th Annual Mietne International Accordion Seminar - Poland

Orchestra, Klaudiusz Baran teaching, Alexander Selivanov teaching.
Photos above: Lech Puchnowski conducting the orchestra, Klaudiusz Baran teaching, Alexander Selivanov teaching winner of national and international prizes, Piotr Krzaczkovski.

Over the past 30 years the Mietne International Accordion Seminar organized by the Polish Accordion Association has attracted many famous accordion educators such as Mogens Ellegaard, Viatcheslav Semionov, Mika Väyrynen, Yuri Shishkin, Vladimir Zubitsky as well as the finest Polish accordion professors with association leader being Prof. Lech Puchnowski, who will celebrate his 80th birthday soon and is still working very much for the accordion.

The 2011 tutors were:
Prof. Lech Puchnowski – Leader of the Master Seminar, accordion orchestra class.
Prof. Jerzy Jurek – Dean of the Orchestra Instruments Dept, Fr. Chopin University of Warsaw
Ass. Prof. Elwira Sliwkiewic – University in Lublin.
Prof. Jerzy Modrawski - Fr. Chopin University in Warsaw
Prof. Klaudiusz Baran Fr. - Chopin University in Warsaw
Dorota Puchnowska-Aftyka – National orchestra flute, chamber music class.
Danuta Kaniewska – Jurek – Director of the seminar.
Prof. Alexander Selivanov - Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow
Famous solist Yuri Shishkin (Russia) was invited as a professor and also to perform a solo concert which was “one of the beautiful moments of the seminar”.

For more than 9 days (3rd to 12th July) there were concerts every evening, many performed and guided by the students. We heard music that was prepared before the seminars and also many pieces which were learnt during the seminars.

There is an interesting system of master classes where every student can come to every professor for lessons. This gives participants the very useful opportunity to learn with 3 or 4 or more international professors and also make an exchange of musical traditions from different countries.

Alexander Selivanov wrote: “Its hard to imagine where I can find so many young accordionists (more than 30) of very high level in one place. Congratulations to the Mietne International Accordion Seminar and to Lech Puchnowski and his team for many years of successful work.”
