 El XXXIX International Citta di Castelfidardo, una de las citas imprescindibles en la agenda anual del acordeonista, tiene lugar en Castelfidardo, Ancona, desde el 18 al 21 de septiembre. El festival está organizado con el apoyo del ayuntamiento de la ciudad y la Pro Loco Tourist Association. El director artístico es Roberto Lucanero (imagen de la izquierda).El festival aparece configurado como tradicionalmente se ha venido haciendo, con las categorías habituales (que incluyen acordeón electrónico y bandoneón). Los ganadores ofrecerán un concierto en el Astra Theatre. Por primera vez se establece que los ganadores de origen italiano se clasificarán para la Coupe Mondiale, que se celebrará en Salzburgo, Austria del 27 de octubre al 2 de noviembre.  Accordions Now! 2014, el 7º Festival Anual de Música copatrocinado por la New Hampshire Accordion Association y la Accordion Connection LLC, se celebrará desde el 8 hasta el 10 de agosto en el bonito Courtyard Nashua, New Hampshire.Entre todos los magníficos e interesantísimos eventos con los que cuenta el festival, destacaremos la actuación de la Accoridons Now! Festival Orchestra dirigida por la cofundadora del festival Donna Maria Regis. Tony Lovello (imagen de la izquierda) encabezará la lista de artistas participantes, la cual publicaremos en el momento en que dispongamos de ella.  Hauspoz, Euskal Herriko Akordeoi Elkartea, convoca la séptima edición del Concurso Internacional de Composición “Francisco Escudero”.El objetivo del concurso es fomentar la creación de obras para acordeón sólo y en música de cámara. Una única categoría con obras compuestas para acordeón sólo o música de cámara con acordeón, cuya duración no exceda los 10 minutos. Las obras de música de cámara estarán compuestas para formaciones de un máximo de cuatro intérpretes en las que haya al menos un acordeón. El concurso está abierto a participantes de cualquier nacionalidad sin limitación de edad. La fecha límite de recepción de las obras será el 5 de septiembre de 2014. Todos aquellos que estuvierais interesados en participar, podéis encontrar la información necesaria en las bases adjuntas. |

 “Awards for Young Musicians” (AYM) presenta un proyecto el 30 de marzo, organizado por Gester Cockcroft y dirigido por Ksenija Sidorova (imagen de la izquierda), para aproximadamente 10 acordeonistas de talento con edad inferior a los 18 años.Se tratará de una masterclass y concierto público dirigido por Ksenija Sidorova, AYM dirige sus esfuerzos a promocionar a los músicos pertenecientes a familias con menos ingresos. La voluntad es que ningún talento quede sin voz. El plan para el día será: - Ksenija ofrecerá una master class en la Royal Academy of Music, domingo 30 de marzo de 10:30 a 13:30. - Concierto público de tarde (30 minutos aproximadamente) en el centro de Londres, posiblemente en la estación de tren de King Cross (pendiente de confirmar). | Video above: Alma Quintet performing 'Deep Breathing' composed by Evan Harlan, who is also the accordionist on this video. Evan Harlan passed away on February 27, 2014 from a long term illness. Evan Harlan (accordian, piano, composer, and music director) has recorded and performed internationally with several jazz and world music ensembles including Dave Douglas, the Klezmer Conservatory Band and the Von Trapp Singers. His own quartet, Andromeda, played original music with the flavors of Americana, tango, gypsy, and other passionate traditions. In addition to concerts in the New England area, they were the house band for the American Repertory Theater's production of Snow in June in 2003. From 1995-2000, Harlan's group Excelsior played unorthodox arrangements of 20th century composers's works. Their CD, Declassified, was featured on WGBH radio's internationally distributed "Art of the States", WGBH/BBC's "The World", WBUR's "The Connection" and "Here and Now". Harlan was the recipient of a 2001 Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Grant in music composition; he also scored numerous works for film, dance, and theater. In addition, he has played on the soundtracks of Sidney Lumet's A Stranger Among Us, and John Sayles's Lone Star. In 2001, he performed in the orchestra with Luciano Pavarotti at the Fleet Center in Boston, and has been featured in Hovanhess's Rubaiyat and Hindemith's Kammermusik 1. As a conductor of musical theater, he led Snow in June and Shlemeil the First at the American Repertory, and Fiorello at Brandeis University.   The 17th annual NAO Northern Ireland Open Championships took place on February 22nd at the Clarion Hotel, Carrickfergus, Antrim. The organizer was Clyde Johnston (picture right), there was a record 215 entries, and the adjudicators were Ivan Black, Audrey Gillian and Sarah McEvoy. This festival is qualifier for the National Accordion Organisation of the United Kingdom (NAO) Championships, which take place at the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool, April 25th to 27th.  ‘Top dancing’, by Mickaël Richard, is new CD release of music for line dancing, such as Viva mariana, reggae musette, kuduro, zimbola, dance the letkiss, and many more. Distribution is by JR Prod and Radio France, and the CD will be available in French record stores. This CD will be reviewed in the April edition of the magazine ‘Accordéon et Accordéonistes’. |

 Russian accordionist Nikolai Ryskov performed on the weekly Channel 4 TV show ‘Sunday Brunch’ on February 23rd.Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer's guests included Ashley Walters, who discusses ‘The Musketeers’. Shaun Keaveny talks about ‘6 Music Festival’, Angus Deayton and Sean Verey chatted about their new series of ‘Pramface’, while music is from Paloma Faith, who performs ‘Can't Rely on You’. | The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending March 3rd 2000 reported that attempts were being made to organize fortnightly meetings for accordionists. This was being done by AIDA, the International Association of Accordionists. Are these meetings still taking place/ AIDA Plans – Argentina Contributed by Florencia Herrera President of Asociación Internacional de Acordeonistas (AIDA - International Association of Accordionists), Julio Erman (alias Gasparin) plans to organize music club meetings on the second Sunday of each month. Professional and amateur accordionists are invited to attend and perform at these meetings. The AIDA currently publish an informative booklet with news of future concerts and events in South America. Their magazine ‘El Acordeón’ unfortunately stopped publication two years ago because of financial reasons, but the association hopes to resume publication of this magazine in the near future. The association currently has about 500 members. |

 There will be a dinner dance at The Greenhills Hotel, Limerick, on Saturday March 1st, 8pm, to the music of the duo Dessie Hynes and Frankie Scorr (accordion/guitar) and The Indians show band.Dessie Hynes, well known as MD of the band backing Foster & Allen, is one of Ireland’s leading Irish traditional players. The Indians, who feature a diatonic accordionist, have been one of Ireland’s most popular and accomplished show bands since the 1970s. |
