Friedrich Lips, highly awarded Russian accordionist and winner of numerous international distinctions, Alexander Buzlov (cello), Alexander Tsygankov (domra), Valery Zazhigin (balalaika) and others will take part in the final concert of the festival. The Excelsior International Accordion Quintet performs in concert on Thursday August 30th, 7.30pm, at the Vienibas Nama Koncertzale (University Concert Hall), Daugavpils, Latvia. The origins of the Excelsior International Accordion Quintet go back to the autumn of 1999, during the International Festival of Music for Bayan and Accordion in Chelyabinsk, Russia. It was at that time when the two accordion duets - Vladimir Ushakov and Sergej Likhachov and Eduardas Gabnis and Gennady Savkov - met. The musicians played some pieces of music together at one of the festival concerts. The musicians were so satisfied with playing together that they decided to create a repertoire for their ensemble, and meetings of the members of the ensemble took place in different countries and in various circumstances. Svetlana Stavitskaya, the accordionist from Latvia, became a member of the ensemble, which became a quintet. |
