2016 ‘Tag der Harmonika’ In Kloster In Gleisdorf- Austria

2016 ‘Tag der Harmonika’ participants
This year’s ‘Tag der Harmonika’ organised by the Harmonika Verband Österreichs (HVÖ) was held in the beautiful location of Kloster in Gleisdorf (Austria, Styria) from May 5th to 9th. The competition attracted more than 350 participants and included categories for accordion soloists, duos, ensembles and orchestras, for harmonica and the ‘Steirische Harmonika’ (Styrian Harmonica, a type of diatonic accordion), which has become very popular recently.

Danijel Piller and Michael Frankenberger were selected to represent Austria in both senior and junior classical categories at the 2016 Coupe Mondiale in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, at the beginning of September. Danijel will also take part in the newly created ensemble category ‘World Music’ together with his ‘Quartet Piller’.

Again Stefan Djordjevic was very convincing in his category (12 to 14 years) showing his enormous perspectives for the future.

Michael Sattler, from Upper-Austria, not only took first prize in the highest category of the diatonic competition, but also in the competition to remember Erich Moser (former diatonic world champion), a category organized for the second time. As usual, there were many excellent performances of diatonic duets and folk music ensembles.

Local accordion orchestra ‘Ars Harmoniae’ (conducted by Rudolf Plank and former winner of the Innsbruck festival) and well-known Austrian group ‘Dobrek Bistro’ ensured the evening entertainment.

Together with the whole HVÖ crew Rudolf Plank was the perfect organizer of this event, and was rewarded ‘Merited Friend of the Accordion’ by HVÖ-President Werner Weibert.

A larger report will be available on the next edition of the Diatonic News, published 1st June.
