Le prix "Paolo Soprani" à Raymond Bodell, Président de la CIA - Italieby Harley Jones |

| Le prix "Paolo Soprani", aujourd’hui dans sa 5ème édition, a été présenté par Mirco Soprani, maire de Castelfidardo, Vincenzo Canali, président de l’international Museum Castelfidardo de l’accordéon et Mirco Patarini, président de Scandalli Accordions s.r.l., lors d’une cérémonie à Castelfidardo le 17 Septembre. Le lauréat du prix "Paolo Soprani" 2014 est le président de la Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) Raymond Bodell en reconnaissance du travail de la CIA et de celui du président Raymond Bodell pour la promotion de l’accordéon et les échanges internationaux des accordéonistes. Le sponsor de ce prix "Paolo Soprani" est Scandalli Accordions s.r.l. et la statuette qui le symbolise est une création du célèbre sculpteur italien Franco Campanari. Il s’agit d’une véritable œuvre d’art en bronze, présentée dans un coffret spécialement dessiné, accompagné d’un livre sur l’art de Franco Campanari.  Le 19ème « Grand Soufflet », festival Cajun et Zydeco, se tiendra à Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine, France, du 2 au 11 octobre. Parmi les invités, Rosie Ledet & The Zydeco Playboys, de Louisiane, USA, qui se produiront le vendredi 10 octobre, 21h00 au parc du Thabor de Rennes.Rosie Ledet, diatoniste 1 rang, chanteuse, et son groupe ont enregistré 9 albums à ce jour. Parmi les membres de son groupe, Andre Nizzari (guitare, claviers, vocals), Chuck Bush (basse, vocals), Lukey Ledet (batterie) and Malcolm Walker (scrubboard, vocals). | Le PIF 2014, 39ème festival International Citta di Castelfidardo proposait deux nouvelles catégories de concours qui se sont disputées le 18 septembre. La catégorie N, soliste plus de 18 ans, programme libre, 20 mn maximum. Réglement complet ici :Concorso2014 (page 9 du règlement). La catégorie O, musique d’ensemble, pas de limite d’âge, programme libre, 20 mn maximum, avec l’accordéon au premier plan dans le groupe. Les concurrents que j’ai entendus étaient d’un haut niveau et il me semble que ces deux nouvelles catégories furent un succès. Vidéo de la remise des prix.   One of the great post war names of Scottish country dancing, Bobby Crowe, from Fife, began playing the piano accordion when aged 15, taking lessons from Doug Maxwell Senior. Within two years he was playing in the Olympians Scottish Dance Band, with whom he remained until joining the army for two years National Service, 1955-57.Once demobbed in 1957, Bobby formed his own five-piece band and embarked on a long and very successful career in gigs, broadcasting and recording. The Bobby Crowe SDB, which had its own style and sound, made its first radio broadcast from Dundee on December 6th 1961. Such was Bobby Crowe’s reputation for playing Scottish dance music with great lift and at a correct tempo, he was commissioned by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society to make some recordings. In all, 11 LPs were made for the RSCDS, plus 3 LPs for commercial release. Bobby also made many broadcasts with the Cameron Kerr SDB, in addition to his own work. In 1989, the Bobby Crowe SDB recorded an album titled ‘The Lasting Pride’, which many consider to be his finest album – selling in excess of 30,000 copies. The lineup at this time was Bobby Crowe – lead accordion; Edward Galley - second accordion, Ron Kerr – violin, Jimmy Lindsay – piano, Dave Barclay – bass, and Malcolm Ross - drums. Bobby Crowe suffered a stroke that ended his playing career, and was greatly missed from the broadcasting and Scottish dance scene. He turned his attention to woodworking, but retained his interest in Scottish music and also in jazz accordion, and was a friend and admirer of Frank Marocco and Jack Emblow. Bobby was famed for his dry wit, including such philosophical gems as: “What doesn’t get done today stands a very good chance of not getting done tomorrow either” and “I don’t accept reverse charge calls until after six o’clock”!! |

 The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending September 22nd 2000 included news of Rebekah Grieg, from New Zealand, dress designer whose summer collection had just been displayed. Also an accordionist, Rebekah Grieg won many competitions and competed in the Coupe Mondiale and today performs regularly as a professional musician in the Wellington area.Fashion - Accordion Style - New Zealand Rebekah Grieg Wellington accordionist Rebekah Grieg (who is also a dress designer) had her summer collection featured at the recent Hong Kong students Association Ball and Fashion Show. The designs were inspired by the accordion bellows and featured lots of accordion pleats!! |

 French musette accordionist Jean Dauvin and British accordion/vocals entertainer Steve Roxton are the guests at Stockport Accordion Club on Wednesday September 24th, 8pm. Their previous visit a couple of years ago was a magnificent performance that sent everybody home in a happy mood, and we are looking forward to more of their fabulous entertainment. The Stockport Accordion Orchestra (Brian Jenkins) and Band (MD Adrienne Sharpe) will begin the first and second halves of the concert respectively. Admission is £5, and there is an 8pm start.  Accordionist and composer Marco Lo Russo returns to Cuba, September 24th to October 8th, to represent Italy and perform at the 6th Leo Brouwer Festival of Chamber Music.Leo Brouwer is one of the greatest guitar players and composers of contemporary classics, admired throughout the world and especially in Cuba, where he has a number of official posts, including the direction of the music faculty at the Institute of Cinema. His festival is a prestigious cultural event involving artists from all over the world, and this year’s guest artists include Marco Lo Russo, Bobby McFerrin, Chucho Valdés, Jordi Savall and Yo-Yo Ma. The festival runs from September 26th to October 12th, involving over 300 musicians and artists from 12 countries, with more than forty world premieres of music. Before leaving for Cuba, next weekend from Friday 19th to Sunday September 21st, Marco Lo Russo will be in Castelfidardo, as a jury member for the competition at the 39th edition of the International Accordion Festival. | The 2nd Krakow Accordion Festival takes place from September 25th to 29th. The event presents different musical styles, including tango nuevo, folk, world music, jazz, and classical. Kraków and Nowy Sacz host performers including the Polish-Slovak Duo Accosphere (Grzegorz Palus and Alena Budzinakova), Mysterious Duo (Pawel Janas and Maciej Frackiewicz), as well as songs for voice and accordion presented by the Duet Dialogi from Ukraine, and the ensemble Quasi Una Fantasia. The festival includes a competition. The jury members are Iwona Siwek-Front, Bozena Bob-Dyga, Marta Zurek, Adam Kaluski, Peter Sawinski, and Marek Luzar. Events take place in the following venues: Alchemia, Malopolska Garden of Arts, Regional Museum in Nowy Sacz, Wladyslaw Zelenski Music Secondary School, and the Wrzos Cinema and Theatre. The finale concert features The Kuraybers (an ensemble founded at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo by students from various countries, including the Polish accordionist Grzegorz Miszczyszyn), and the Bester Quartet, representing Kraków. The audience will also hear world premieres of chamber pieces for accordion, composed especially for the festival by students and graduates of the Academy of Music in Kraków. |

 Ken and Mary’s ‘Turbo Accordions Express’ travel to El Salvador, Central America, toperform Pilsener Bier Oktoberfest shows October 22nd to 27th, organised by the Miller brewing Co. The shows are twice daily, at 3pm and 8pm. Ken has over 40 years of music experience, playing the diatonic button accordion and also the tenor banjo, guitar, mandolin, and mandola. He was even bestowed the title “Baron of the Banjo” by Frankie Yankovic. Ken had his own rag/jazz band for many years, playing in and around Ohio as well as performing in the German Pavillon at Disney’s Epcot Center and at the Altstadt Fest in Goslar/Harz, Germany. Mary’s music career has spanned over 30 years, playing both the organ and the piano accordion. She has performed at numerous festivals, banquets, and for parties.
