 Due to the ongoing restrictions and circumstances pertaining to the Global Covid-19 pandemic, the CIA 145th General Assembly of Delegates which was scheduled to be held in Switzerland, hosted by Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) Premiere Voting Member accordeon.ch, has been adapted to an online meeting, enabling maximum international participation. We thank the Swiss accordeon.ch Association led by President Ruedi Marty, for all their work in arranging our Winter Congress, and we look forward to our visit to Switzerland for the upcoming Coupe Mondiale to be held in Zofingen from October 4th to 9th, 2022. Members will receive an invitation from Secretary General Kimmo Mattila shortly. |

  The Kokkola Winter Accordion Festival will be held from February 6th to 14th, 2021 in Kokkola, Finland.The festival week program is planned and the festival will be carried out according to Covid-19 current restrictions, therefore the concerts have been restricted and will now be online. Right is the list of performers and concerts and you can come to this page or the Kokkola Winter Accordion Festival Facebook or youtube to view the concerts. The first Kokkola Winter Accordion Festival was held in 1999. Well known Kokkola teacher and accordionist Raimo Vertainen (picture left) has been the Artistic Director since inception and this year is the 22nd Kokkola Winter Accordion Festival.  Accordions Worldwide sends congratulations to John Kirkpatrick (accordion, melodeon & concertina player) who was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2021 New Year’s Honours List (UK) for services to folk music. The MBE is awarded for an outstanding achievement or service to the community. This will have had a long-term, significant impact and stand out as an example to others. Those receiving the accolades are announced a few days before the end of the year and around the Queen's state birthday. During the 2021 Covid-19 lockdowns John plans to perform live online concerts every few weeks. His next concert will be held on January 24th, 2021 at 7.30pm GMT, where he will play tunes and songs from his CD’s “Morris On”, "Sheepskins", "The Duck Race", “Plain Capers” and many more..  All accordionists are invited to participate in the 1st online Accordion Star International Competition 2021 will be held from April 16th to 25th, 2021. This is an opportunity for young and talented accordionists from all over the world to showcase their art to a wide audience of music lovers and professional musicians. President of the festival is performer Sergei Teleshev (picture left).The international jury will include famous performers, teachers, composers, conductors, producers from the USA, Canada, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Serbia, Germany, Sweden, England, France, Israel, South Africa and other countries. The Chairman of the jury is People's Artist of Russia, Viatcheslav Semionov. Competition categories are available for a variety of age groups for soloists from under 8 years old up to over 37 years old as well as ensemble classes with no age limit and a special category entitled “Music of Bach”. The international jury will include Viatcheslav Semionov (Chairman - Russia), Alexander Selivanov (Russia), Roman Jbanov (France), Jelena Milojevic (Canada), Petar Maric (Serbia), Matthias Matzke (Germany), Bratislav Manasijevic (USA), Michael Bridge (Canada), Semmy Stahlhammer (Sweden), Sergey Teleshev (USA/Russia), Trofim Antipov (Belarus), Igor Snedkov (Ukraine), Yuri Merkulov (Russia), Gary Blair (England), Victor Aryutkin (Israel), Lyudmila Varavina (Russia), Isabel Blomme (Sweden), Yuri Veshininin (Russia), Zhenya Rock (USA), Sergio Zampolli (South Africa) and others. In addition to the competition program, concert performances, master classes, interviews and presentation of the members of the jury and guests of the festival will be presented at the festival. | The British College of Accordionists will celebrate their 85th anniversary in 2021 with an Online International Anniversary Festival and National Graded Solo Competition which is open to all UK accordionists. The British College of Accordionists aims to promote, encourage and support accordionists in becoming: Technically competent Quality musicians Fluent communicators Future leaders and ambassadors of the instrument. The BCA Administration Board includes Principal Raymond Bodell, Graham Laurie, Alistair Gillespie and Anna Bodell with BCA Governing Council members Robert Fletcher, Patrick Hay, Harry Hinchcliffe, Mahir Kilic, Pauline Noon, Ken Farran and Wendy Farran. Competition entries close on February 1st, and videos must be received by February 14th, 2021. Entry forms are available on the BCA website. | Video: Danil and Olga Sharavyeva. The 8th music festival "Gnesin's RAM Students" was held in a virtual format on the stage of the large hall of the Kurgan Philharmonic. The first guests of the festival were Danil and Olga Sharavyeva from Yekaterinburg. Literally from their first performance, Danil and Olga won the love and respect of the public. In 2015, their duo was recognized as the best instrumental team of Yekaterinburg. Their repertoire is extensive and diverse, including many styles from Bach's organ music to pop-jazz popular compositions. Currently, Danil and Olga Sharavyeva are soloists of the Ekaterinburg House of Music, as well as assistant trainees of the Ural State Conservatory named after M.P. Mussorgsky. Day2 of the VIII festival "Gnesin's RAM Students" included a performance by young musicians Vladimir Stupnikov (bayan) and Ivan Sendetsky (cello). Vladimir Stupnikov, winner of more than 30 international competitions, is currently a graduate of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory of Art and Korsakov 2019, a class of Prof. A. I. Dmitriev and continues his training in assistant-internship at the Russian Academy of Music by Gnesin, the class of Prof. Friedrich Lips. Competition prizes include: 1st prize - International competition Trophee Mondial de l'Accordeon (2015 in Switzerland) 1st Prize - II All-Russian Music Competition (2017 in Russia) 1st Prize - International Competition - Coupe Mondiale (2017 in Italy) 1st prize - International competition - 43 PIF Castelfidardo, category Premio (2018 in Italy) Ivan Sendetsky (cello) is the winner of many international competitions from 2007 through to 2020 and plays at a variety of music festivals. |

 Accordionist Frank Toscano was asked to arrange and perform music for the soundtrack of a new movie entitled “The Many Saints of Newark” which will be released worldwide on March 12th, 2021.Frank recorded eight songs and performed in the movie with guitarist, Steve Lucas, in the scene of the confirmation party for Janice, Tony’s sister. The movie is a prequel to the popular series “The Sopranos”. Among the songs he played were “Ferry Boat Serenade”, “Volare”, “The Nearness of You” and “Core Grate”. The CD is a personal choice of Milorad’s favorite compositions and includes Jazz, world music, as well as classical music. Tracks include: Asturias (Albeniz), Sonata No 2 (Solotarjow), Sonata in D minor (Scarlatti), plus works by Repnikov, Strauss, Shishkin, Bach and Rimsky Korsakov among others.  The online edition of the Celtic Connections QuebecFest will be held from January 15th to February 2nd, 2021.The event will feature a variety of music concerts and workshops for beginners as well as more experienced players. On January 29th, “Le Vent du Nord” (picture below) which includes accordionist Réjean Brunet, will entertain with their traditional folk pieces as well as original compositions at 8.45pm GMT. This will be followed by a performance by “De Temps Antan” which features accordionist Pierre-Luc Dupuis (picture left). This 3 piece group features a variety of instruments such as violin, accordion, harmonica, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, foot-percussion along with three-part vocals. |

The event, due to Covid travel restrictions, will be open to only New Zealand residents or NZ passport holders.  In memory of Auckland accordionist Andrew Glover (Andy), former member of the North Shore Musicale Accordion Orchestra who passed away suddenly, yet peacefully (non Covid) in December 2020, his composition Tender Tango (Solo) is available as a free download to AWW readers.Andy was a well-known competitor at the New Zealand Accordion Association annual Championships and Festival, usually entering the “Accordion with self vocal” classes as well as a performing in the Musicale Orchestra. He also set up Singing Telegrams in New Zealand. "Tender Tango" was selected as a test piece for an age category of the 2016 New Zealand Accordion Championships.
