11th December - Opening Concert poster above 70th anniversary of Efrem Podgaits Concert for domra and orchestra and Concert No. 2 “Vivavoce” for bayan and orchestra will be performed by Ekaterina Mochalova and Aidar Salakhov, accompanied by the Russian Soul Orchestra of the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music, Artistic Director and Conductor - Vladimir Shkurovsky. The second part will present unique harmonics from different parts of the world. Compositions by Bach, Chopin, Gagliano, Piazzolla, Williams and other composers can be heard arranged for accordion, Indian harmonica, English concertina, German harmonica, African mbiri, bandoneon, Chinese shen, and button accordion. International Accordion Concerto Competition - Croatiaby Christine Johnstone |
The International Accordion Concerto Competition will be held at the Croatian Music Institute in Zagreb, Croatia from September 17th to 20th, 2020. This competition (IACC) features concerto competition for accordionists and bandoneonists with accompaniment by a classical orchestra. The Competition was established to identify talented musicians and help them develop their careers through a concerto setting (solo instrument with orchestra) which is generally less accessible to accordion. It brings accordionists to Zagreb, Croatia to perform in competition for international exposure with eminent orchestras, debuts at famous concert halls, tours and album release. It is the opportunity of a lifetime for accordionists who want to pursue their careers not only as international performing artists, but also as concert soloists. Musicians of any age and study level are encouraged to apply. The international jury will include Cesare Chiacchiaretta (Italy), Krešimir Seletkovic (Croatia), Dominique Emorine (Paris Moscou Duo - France), Peter Soave (USA), Matej Meštrovic (Croatia) and Marjan Krajna (Croatia). Video: Martynas Levickis – Shallow (A Star Is Born) with Igne Pikalaviciute & Mikroorkéstra Lithuanian accordionist Martynas Levickis (picture left) has been named Artist in Residence at the 2020 Festival of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern held in northern Germany. He joins a distinguished list of performers at the event that includes Nigel Kennedy, Daniel Hope, Pinchas Zukerman and Daniel Muller-Schott. Martynas, who plays a classical and contemporary repertoire states: “This appointment and achievement means so much to me personally and professionally. I feel hugely inspired as well as challenged by it, but most importantly proud about my instrument being put in such important position. It is an immense attainment to me as an accordionist and I feel like standing on that marking line identifying the instrument as worthy, respected and loved". Royal Academy of Music, London, accordion tutor Owen Murray wrote: "This is fabulous for the evolution of the accordion into the main stream." A segment of the review: "What makes the book so enjoyable to read are the numerous excellent colour photographs, the only black and white photographs being those taken a long while ago. Video: Caruso Made in Italy by Marco Lo Russo a "Monitor Laziotv" Accordionist Marco Lo Russo will give two concerts in Latina Province this week. The first will be held on December 14th at 6pm at the Circolo Cittadino di Latina, Italy. This concert is held in conjunction with the “Fall Concert 2019” organised by the International Campus Foundation of Music in Latina. Marco will perform a solo accordion recital with original compositions, world music, jazz and tango. The following day, December 15th, he will perform at the Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata in Priverno, Italy. At this event Marco will perform with Korean soprano Min Ji Kang and together they will offer a varied repertoire of Christmas pieces, classical music and some small surprises. Popular Welsh band “Mabon”, which includes Jamie Smith (accordion & vocals), Oliver Wilson-Dickson (fiddle & vocals), Ron Juppy (guitar & vocals), Matt Downer (electric & upright basses & vocals) and Iolo Whelan (drums, percussion & vocals) have decided to disband in 2020 after twenty years of good times. Band members say they have so many good memories of great concerts across the years and they are truly grateful for your support and enthusiasm along the way. Although it's a thoroughly amicable ending: it's time for new projects for some of the band, and new chapters for others. However, before they finish, the band has launched a final UK tour entitled “The Last Huzzah” beginning in February 2020.
