| Due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 17th National Accordion Competition for Soloists & Chamber Music Special Edition 2021 will be held online this year. The event for accordion soloists and chamber music, which is organised by NOVAM (Nederladse Organisatie Voor Accordeon en Mondharmonica) will be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands on March 14th, 2021. Competition entries close on June 1st, 2021. All videos are watched by an independent jury. There are no prizes this year, but you have a chance to win a masterclass or concert prize and all participants will receive a personal jury report and a memento. | The Beltango Quintet from Belgrade, Serbia will perform their first online concert entitled “Una Milonga Mas” on February 13th, 2021 at 21:00 CET details on the poster above. Leader Aleksandar Nikolic wrties: "We are slowly getting into a situation where you, our audience, we miss a lot, we miss the community and we also have to worry economically. We haven't found the right way out of the situation, but we have to do something - doing something is better than doing nothing at all. That is why we would like to play music for you in our private studio in our residential building in Belgrade, music from our portfolio that follows a theme. What else can it be on February 13th, 2021, the eve of Valentine's Day, but love. Please support us by sharing this event, promoting it, buying tickets. Turn your living room into a dance floor, for two or with a broom or just enjoy reminiscing about past milongas." The Beltango Quintet has played more than 1,000 shows in over 30 countries, and includes Aleksandar Nikolic (bandoneon), Ivana Nikolic (piano & vocals), Antonija Barna (violin), Bogdan Pejic (guitar) and Petar Holik (double bass). They enjoy playing a variety of tango music including compositions of Aleksandar Nikolic and other group members. |

Rachael Xu to support the International Music Councilby Harley Jones |

| 11 year old accordionist, Rachael Xu (China) has announced her decision to donate the entire income of her forthcoming Summer Asian Tour to the International Music Council. The tour is set to start in July 2021 and will bring the musician across China, Japan, Korea and Singapore. Influenced by her father Lin Xu, an accordion virtuoso himself and former champion of the American Accordionists’ Association Competition, Rachael started playing the accordion at the age of 7 and has soon demonstrated exceptional talent by passing the highest level (level 10) of the Provincial Music Proficiency Examination in the Accordion category, ranking her the youngest person ever to pass the exam on such level. Under the tutelage of Grayson Masefield (multi World Accordion Champion), Rachael quickly expanded her repertoire and has been competing and performing nationally and internationally, participating in an average of 30 events per year. Among her latest accomplishments, she won first prizes in all Under 9 categories at the 80th American Accordionists' Association Competition (2018), the gold medal at the 14th Singapore Zhongsin 2020Zhongsin International Music Competition (2019), first prizes at the New Zealand Accordion Association South Pacific International Accordion Championship Under 12 (2019) and at the Under 13 AATA Australian International Championship in 2020 (Open and Original category). III All-Russian Baroque Music on Bayan and Accordion, Moscow - Russiaby Arseniy Strokovskiy |

| The organ and harpsichord department and the department of bayan and accordion Gnessin RAM in Moscow announce the III All-Russian competition "Baroque Music on Bayan and Accordion" will be held at the Gnessin RAM Organ Hall in March 2021. The competition is open to players of all ages will be held in 2 rounds and include works by Bach in both rounds in addition to other Baroque composers. The competition jury will include teachers from the RAM Gnesin departments of organ/harpsichord and bayan/accordion. The winner of the First Prize is invited to participate in a festive concert dedicated to the All-Russian Day of Bayan, Accordion and Harmonica, which will be held on March 20th, 2021 in the Great Hall of RAM.  It is with great regret that NAA President Norman Seaton has had to announce that the March 2021 Convention due to be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas, Texas is cancelled due to Covid-19.The convention team will begin preparations for the 2022 event in November 2021. |

| Video: The K Trio performs at the 1999 AAA Festival. Selections include: “Jolly Caballero”, “Carnival of Venice”, “Accordiana” excerpts. Thanks to Cory Pesaturo who found the tape in his home movies. His father had filmed the event. Sadly, Julie Kasprzyk Cardona, 72, of North Haven, USA passed away unexpectedly on January 15th, 2021 at her home. She was a member of the K Trio, AAA, American Accordionists' Association and the Connecticut Accordion Association. The K Trio performed all over the United States and were truly a trio of champions. Siblings Mary Kasprzyk Tokarski, Julie Kasprzyk Cardona and Walter Kasprzyk performed nationwide in competitions and concerts as youngsters. As young adults, life moved them to different areas of the United States! After 25 years apart, they all relocated to Connecticut again, and soon after began performing as The "K" Trio.  The Royal Academy of Music in London has announced “Covid-19 will not stop the accordion department’s chamber music concert” on February 18th, 2021 at 1pm.Thanks to technology we can still enjoy an accordion concert online from the David Josefowitz Recital Hall of the Royal Academy of Music. The concert will feature performances by the students who have had a tough year negotiating restrictions whilst trying to keep the studying time productive at the Academy. As part of the “200 PIECES” project, students will perform new works by Des Oliver, Howard Skempton and Vykintas Baltakas, alongside other compositions for the instrument. This concert is free to watch online. |

| A concert to celebrate the 80th birthday of José Domingos de Morais (12th February 1941 – 23rd July 2013), better known as Dominguinhos will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on February 19th, 2021 at 7pm. Dominguinhos was a popular Brazilian composer, accordionist and singer. The event will be celebrated with performances by Orquestra Sanfônica do Rio de Janeiro (picture below) and special guests.
