| The World Music Festival 2013 is the world's largest competition for accordion and for accordion orchestras and ensembles. The event is organised by the Deutscher Harmonika Verband e.V. (Germany) and more than 450 orchestras and ensembles will take part. Program overview below. There are also several podium discussions and information talks with European composers, musicians and exhibitors on Friday and Saturday. | The Santa Maria Accordion Band (MD Marthese Busutill Cassar L.B.C.A.) performed at the Springfest 2013 festival at Rabat, close to the Nigret Church, on May 6th, celebrating World Accordion Day. Conductor: Andreas Weiser (Germany) Soloist: Aleksandar Kolovski (accordion) Program: Risto Avramovski (Macedonia): “Harmosin” –The expelled byzantine Richard Galliano:" Opale Concerto" concerto foraccordion and orchestra Ottorino Respighi (Macedonia): Pini di Roma Kolovski (b.1990) currently studies at the Skopje-based Faculty of Music Arts and regularly attends master courses in France. He has won a number of international accordion competitions. |

‘14 Years Ago’ – Accordion Events in Japanby Rob Howard |
 The Accordions Worldwide news for the week ending May 14th 1999 included two items about separate accordion concerts in Japan. One of the items concerned the still very active Mika Väyrynen, from Finland. Accordions Worldwide would like to know what accordion events are taking place in 2013 in Japan. Is somebody able to tell us?Väyrynen at Sell Out Concert – Japan Finnish accordionist Mika Väyrynen is currently touring Japan until May 20th. He performed on May 14th in the Musashino Hall in Tokyo. This concert has been sold out since January this year. Other performances include the Studio Runde in Nagoya on the 16th and the Phoenix Hall in Osaka on the 18th. These venues are famous and respected halls where many famous musicians have performed. Benefit Concert – Japan Contributed by Toru Katou On May 22nd the annual ‘Noboru Emori's Accordion Class Presentation’ will be held at the Kagaku-Gijutsu Hall, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo at 4pm. The following day an annual benefit concert ‘Accordion and Music in Hiroshima’ will be held at the Hiroshima City East Ward Culture Center Hall, Higashi-Ward, Hiroshima at 1.30pm. This is one of the biggest accordion events in the Chugoku-Shikoku-Area. Admission is free with voluntary contributions to the relief fund of Hiroshima City accepted. Accordion bands including ‘Hiroshima Tango Ensemble’, ‘Hideo Katahara’, and ‘Ensemble Musette’ will perform with singers and dancers. The organizer is Mr Katahara (Accordion Masters Association). |

| The Kilfenora Ceili Band play for a ceili, 3pm, to 6pm, on Sunday May 12th, at the Cos Cos Festival in Rathcormack, County Sligo. Founded in County Clare in 1909, the Kilfenora are Ireland’s longest established ceili band. Zoltan Orosz Concert, Mohács – Hungaryby Rob Howard |
 On Friday May 17th, 6pm, leading Hungarian accordionist Zoltan Orosz accompanied by guitarist Zoltan Balogh, performs at the Kossuth Movie Theater, Mohács.Zoltan Orosz studied the accordion and the organ in Budapest, and at the age of 13, entered the Klingenthal International Accordion Competition in Germany. He has since become a virtuoso performer, with an international repertoire and appeal, and with several CDs to his credit. The concert on May 17th presents music from his latest recording. | The 6th annual Accordions Now! Festival, co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Accordion Association and Accordion Connection LLC, takes place from August 9th to 11th at the Courtyard Nashua, 2200 Southwood Drive, Nashua, NH 03063. The guest line-up includes accordionists Tony Lovello, Joe Cerrito, Brent Buswell, Paul Bordeleau, Nancy Leonard, Dan Mackowiak, Paul Ramunni, Donna Maria Regis, Carmen Vitanza, Gerry Grimo and the East Bay Jazz Ensemble, and from Norway, Gamle Aker Spelemannslag, and 15-year-old Norwegian competition winner Einar Thokle Hovden. One of festival’s regular features is the Accordions Now! Festival Orchestra – would be participants should sign up by July 12th. Other features include the Open Mike Cabaret, Night Owls Jam and pick-up sessions. Music is available in advance for the Just-for-Fun Play-Along.
