Lithuanian National Accordionist’s Union and the Kaunas Accordion Society sponsor the XII International Accordion Competition “Ascoltate 2017”, 10th - 12th April at the Kaunas J.Gruodis Conservatory Concert Hall. An international jury will preside over the six categories, ranging from classical to variete, for those born from 1994. Accordion group’s and orchestras as well as soloists are participating. Marco Lo Russo/Alanas Eurovision Song Entry, Klaipėda – Lithuaniaby Rob Howard |
‘7 Days’, composed by Alanas and popular accordionist and composer Marco Lo Russo has passed the selection of the jury with great enthusiasm and is among eight productions in the National Final Eurovision Song Contest Lithuania 2017. The final, will be broadcast live on Saturday March 11th at 8.30 pm on TV LRT (National Television Lithuania) from the auditorium Švyturys Arena in the city of Klaipeda. The winner will represent Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest final in Kiev, Ukraine, on Saturday May 13th in competition with singers from other European countries including the winner of Sanremo 2017, Francesco Gabbani. London Accordion Orchestra Album Launch, London – UKby Rob Howard |
The London Accordion Orchestra (MD Ian Watson) concert and album launch is on Saturday March 11th, 12 noon until 2pm, at the Union Chapel, London N1 2UN. Free entry (suggested £5 donation). The LAO’s new album, ‘Flight’, featuring original compositions, was recorded at the world famous Abbey Rd Studios. The London Accordion Orchestra (previously the Morley Accordion Orchestra) was formed in 1999. In May 2013 the orchestra performed at the World Music Festival in Innsbruck, Austria, and in 2016, the orchestra returned to the World Music Festival and achieved second place in the Advanced Orchestra category, performing specially commissioned works from contemporary British composers, including Matthew Scott, Stuart Hancock and Ian Watson. The orchestra has furthermore been invited to perform in Nuremberg, together with the widely recognised and award-winning Nuremberg Accordion Orchestra on April 30th 2017 to showcase original works by British composers in an international context. ‘Valse Musette ou Mazurka’ arranged for Accordion Orchestra – Germanyby Rob Howard |
Alfred Music have released the scores of an arrangement by Stefan Hippe of ‘Valse Musette ou Mazurka’, by Jean Caprice, for Accordion Orchestra. The price of the scores is 25.25 Euro or £21.92. Stefan Hippe is the Chief Conductor of the Nürnberg Accordion Orchestra and Professor at Konservatorium Trossingen. Mr. Hippe intends to perform and premiere the piece with his accordion orchestra soon. An arrangement for Symphony Orchestra of the ‘Valse Musette ou Mazurka’ follows later this year (Alfred Music). ‘Valse Musette ou Mazurka’ is part of a suite of music written and recorded by Jean Caprice as a companion to his novel and music book, both titled ‘Zuckerbrod & Peytsche’. The 5th Internationaal Accordeonfestival Stadskanaal takes place on Sunday March 12th, 1pm until 5.15pm, at the Geert Theis theatre, Stadskanaal, Netherlands. Prior to the festival, American accordionist Cory Pesaturo gives master classes on Friday March 10th, morning and afternoon, aimed at players of intermediate standard, and if there is sufficient demand, also on Saturday morning March 11th. These take place at the Kunstenschool ZG, Raadhuisplein, 9501 SZ Stadskanaal (next to the Geert Teis theatre). Accordionists performing include Cory Pesaturo, Radu Laxgang (Moldova), Hermine Deurloo (harmonica) and Jean Luois van Dam, and Pieter Bosma. Hanzhi Wang, from China, the guest at last month’s meeting, returns to Brooklyn Accordion Club this Sunday March 12th, 3-5pm, at 61 Local (61 Bergen Street), Brooklyn, New York. Olivier Douyez (accordion) and Ana Marjanovic (violin) perform a classical programme in concert on Sunday March 12th, 4pm, at Place Roi Baudoin, 17 a Bois-d’Haine, Belgium. The duo will perform works by JS Bach, Schubert, and Shodstakovitch. Olivier Douyez is a concert artist and Professor of Accordion at the Royal Conservatory in Mons, Belgium. He had many successes in competitions including winning the CMA Trophee Mondiale in Venezuela, and 1st place at international competitions in Geneva (Switzerland), Brussels (Belgium), and Vichy (France). Next week the Lithuanian accordion virtuoso Martynas Levickis performs and holds master classes at the long established music festival ‘March Music Days’ in Ruse, Bulgaria. He will be working alongside the SIGNUM saxophone quartet. The festival runs from March 10th to 26th. Martynas’ involvement includes: March 15th to 17th – Martynas and the SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet master classes and performances for children and teens from Ruse secondary schools March 15th, 7pm - Martynas and the SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet, concert, Theatre Hall, J. Even with all his international commitments, Marco Lo Russo continues teaching as the Conservatory of Music A. Scontrino of Trapani, Sicily (Italy) and concert activity in his home country Italy. On Monday March 13th at 4.15pm, Marco Lo Russo will be special guest at La Sapienza University, Faculty of Humanities, Department of Geography (Piazza A. Moro, 5), Rome (Italy) for the presentation of the book by Paola Ingletti, published by the Bibliography Institute of Music, titled ‘Beatles. The sound of the words’. Dedicated to the analysis of the sounds of the words used in the texts, the recurring rhetorical figures and the importance of nonsense in the songs of the Beatles, the presentation of the musicological work by Paola Ingletti will be accompanied by the original and unmistakable accordion sound ‘Made in Italy’ by Marco Lo Russo, who will perform some songs of the famous English pop group. On Saturday March 18th, 9pm, accordionist and bandoneonist Mirko Satto performs in concert at the Sala dei Giganti, Palazzo Liviano, Padua, Italy. Mirko Satto, accompanied by the pianist Valter Favero, will perform works by Molique, Paganini, Saparov, Galliano, and Piazzolla. Entrance is 7 Euro. Accordion and bandoneon player, Mirko Satto studied accordion at the Conservatory “A. Steffani” in Castelfranco Veneto (TV). He has won numerous national and international competitions and has performed in accordion festivals, concert halls and exhibitions, performing throughout Europe, Australia, Japan, Africa, and South America. Jazz accordionist Renzo Ruggieri, from Italy, is a guest at the festival ‘Days of Bayan and Accordion’ in Belgorod, Russia, from March 14th to 17th. Renzo performs in concert on Thursday March 16th, 9pm. Renzo Ruggieri has performed around the world, and is one of today’s leading jazz accordionists, arrangers and composers. He has written teaching methods, and collaborates with many musicians, ensembles and orchestras. He is the Artistic Director of the Pineto Accordion Jazz Festival and the Accordion Art Festival.
