![]() Guest artsts are: - Sergio Scappini (Italy), who has performed concerts throughout the world often promoting the Bugari-evo digital accordion. - Valerio Russo, international competition winner, will perform a virtuoso music repertoire and will premiere his new "Accordion Puzzle" CD. - Folklore Ensemble "Kankliai" (Lithuania) winner of international folk competitions, participating in many folk music festivals. The Accordion Art Festival features: - Italia Award 2017 International Contest - Orpheus Award 2017 (Italians only) - Italian Selections CMA 2017 President: Claudio Azzaro and Artistic Director: Renzo Ruggieri. The event is organized by the Associazione Promozione Arte (APA), with the support of the City of Roseto degli Abruzzi and private sponsors. The Orpheus Award 2017 is a critics prize, similar to Academy Award (OSCAR), dedicated to productions by Italian accordionists only. Orpheus Artistic Director is Gerlando Gatto. There are international solo competition categories for all ages and types of music, as well as categories for concert performers and for group or accordion soloist with new original project. ![]() The event includes accordion competitions, concerts, workshops, free accordion lessons, a trade show, dancing, jam sessions, and an accordion parade. This year’s guest accordionists and workshop leaders include Stas Venglevski (Moldova), Sergei Teleshev (Russia), Jim & Shirley O’Brien, Jim Tobler, John Giuliani, Kim & Dan Christian, Kori Tideman & Max Kyllonen, The Portatos, Mark Myking & Zydeco Rex, Lyn & Toby’s Polka Parade, the LIAC Dance Band, and the Northwest Accordionaires. There will a Roland Virtual Accordion demonstration by Steve Albini, and an exhibition and history of the diatonic accordion by Tom Tilton. ![]() Irish 2-row diatonic accordionist Sharon Shannon is to perform at the Glastonbury Festival on Friday June 23rd, 4.25pm to 5.05pm, appearing on the Acoustic Stage in a concert that also features Status Quo, Seth Lakeman, Martha Wainwright, and more. Sharon Shannon, from County Clare but now living in Galway, plays the button accordion, melodeon, fiddle, and tin whistle. Originally a competitive show jumper, she switched to playing music professionally in the mid-1980s, and has since enjoyed a very successful international career. She was briefly a member of The Waterboys, but plays mainly as a soloist with her own backing musicians. Sharon Shannon is especially popular with younger audiences, plays frequently to sold-out audiences, and is well-known as an innovator who incorporates other styles such as French-Canadian, Portuguese, Cajun, and Reggae into Irish traditional music. Glastonbury Festival is an annual five-day festival of contemporary performing arts that takes place near Pilton, Somerset. In addition to contemporary music, the festival hosts dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other arts. Leading pop and rock artists have headlined, alongside thousands of others appearing on smaller stages and performance areas, and the festival receives extensive television and newspaper coverage. |

![]() The highly accomplished Gerald Crossman (1920-2015) – accordionist, pianist, organist, bandleader, composer, arranger, festival adjudicator, writer, and a former NAO Vice President. He played the accordion in innumerable BBC radio broadcasts, in concerts, on cruise ships, and on TV and in films. His writing included two tutor books for accordion and 200 articles published in accordion magazines. He also worked as pianist for both Charlie Chaplin and Marlene Dietrich in their stage shows. Manchester-based Helen Rich is an accordionist, pianist and violinist who has performed with distinction at many accordion clubs and festivals in England. ![]() ![]() Prof. John Howard came from London to co-host the evening, and a spectacular concert was held by the accordion pupils and teachers of Music at the Fingertips Exclusive School. Accordionist and teacher Sergio Zampolli was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the London College of Music, based on a lifetime of "professional achievement". Willem Vogel, Artistic Director of the Brooklyn Theatre was awarded an Honorary Licentiate of the London College of Music, also for a lifetime of "professional achievement". Sergio Zampolli said “This evening was a career highlight for me”. |

![]() Jiachen Xue has studied with Yanghseng Li in Beijing and Jacques Mornet in France and was placed 2nd at the 2013 Coupe Mondiale Junior Entertainment category and is currently studying for a Bachelor of Science at Monash University in Melbourne Australia. He began playing the accordion at the age of seven, and later moved to Italy, where he formed a dance orchestra that performs frequently in dance halls throughout northern Italy. ![]() Teddy and Cathal Barry are a father and son duo from County Waterford. Teddy Barry won three All Ireland titles on the 3-row British chromatic button accordion in the late 1970s, and has worked ever since as a dance musician and singer. His son Cathal plays drums, button accordion, banjo and guitar, but in a duo with his father plays guitar and sings. |

![]() Masahiro Ogawa has been living and working in London for the past three years and is soon to return to Japan. He started playing the accordion at 5 years old taught by his mother who is a piano and accordion teacher. Since 12 years he has been self-taught and had no further other formal type of training, developing his own style of playing, particularly enjoying playing film scores. He has been a representative for Japan Accordion Promotion Conference (JAPC), whose aim it is to promote the music of the accordion and increasing the number of accordion players. In 2010 he won first prize at the V-Accordion contest organized by Roland in Japan, and competed at the International V-Accordion contest in Rome in October 2010.
