Caterina Fiorentini Receives Special Award - Italy

Award poster
Video: Ibla Gran Prize, Caterina Fiorentini, published 02 Feb 2020.

Accordionist Caterina Fiorentini, together with poet Silvia Piacentini, will receive the "Tacita Muta" Award for minority languages on February 22nd, 2020 in Rome. The award is presented by the Sardinian Association in Rome "Il Gremio", by the Salpare Association and the VP Sardinia Fund, with the patronage of the International Association of Literary Critics and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage - Ethnic and Literary Parks Project.

The acknowledgment, which last year went to the Sardinian singer-songwriter Pietro Marras, was awarded to Caterina Fiorentini on the recommendation of the Fogolar Furlan of Rome (who collaborates on the initiative), for the original music set to poems in Friulian by Silvia Piacentini.

In the video, Caterina performs in May 2019 with her original composition for voice and accordion at the Ibla Grand Prize Winners Concerts in New York City (New York University Casa Italiana Zerilli / Marimò and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall).

The occasion is the result of the recognition obtained at the 2017 Ibla Grand Prize competition, where with the score of 8.50/10 Caterina was best equal among other performing composers and placed fourth overall.

2019 was an important year because of Caterina's original recital "Sentire il Margine" as well. ThIs project was presented to the italian public in some dates, in collaboration with Vincenzo Fiorentini, Alessandro Cubi and Giuseppe Piras. In 2019 Caterina also released her EP "Come Icaro", second work after the album "Incontri randagi (Live in Studio)", released in 2018.

Both record projects are available online.
