 Il 18 febbraio, Yehuda Oppenheimer è deceduto la mattina presto al ICCU Shaare Zedek Medical Center, un ospedale di Gerusalemme. Aveva una grave insufficienza cardiaca e complicazioni fatali.Yeshiva Oppenheimer (nato nel 1925) era nato in Germania, ma nel 1937 la sua famiglia si trasferì nei Paesi Bassi nella speranza di evitare la persecuzione antisemita.Quando i tedeschi invasero nel 1940, l'Oppenheimer è riuscito a sopravvivere agli anni di guerra nascondendosi nella soffitta di una simpatica famiglia cristiana in Amsterdam - tracciando paralleli con la storia di Anne Frank, anche se con un esito molto più felice. All'età di 6 anni, Yehuda prese la fisarmonica, e raggiunse un alto livello pur non avendo mai avuto lezioni. Dopo la guerra, Yehuda andò in Israele, dove iniziò una notevole carriera nella musica.Ha studiato il violino al Conservatorio di Gerusalemme, e poi ha scoperto che poteva guadagnarsi da vivere suonando la fisarmonica nelle case di convalescenza e alberghi. Nella guerra d'indipendenza del 1948 Yehuda,a 23 anni,era nell'esercito a intrattenere i suoi compagni. Dopo aver lasciato l'esercito si afferma come un maestro della fisarmonica e , nel corso degli anni, ha insegnato a molti studenti provenienti da tutto Israele, alcuni dei quali hanno vinto premi a livello internazionale. Alla fine del 1950 Yehuda ha fondato una orchestra di fisarmonica con la quale ha lavorato per trenta anni. Il suo primo CD solista di fisarmonica è stato registrato nel 1998, 'The Accordion Magic di Yehuda Oppenheimer', che è per metà in stile musica leggera e per metà di arrangiamenti di maestri di musica classica, e un brano originale per orchestra e fisarmonica, 'Israelienne Rhapsody', scritto per lui da uno dei maggiori compositori israeliani, marzo Lavry, ed eseguito con l'Orchestra Sinfonica NDR Orchestra di Amburgo. Il suo secondo CD, 'Due Amici', contiene le composizioni di Jozef Pritsch, che era un insegnante di fisarmonica, con altri pezzi composti da Yehuda. Ultimamente, ha prodotto, come regalo per il suo 80esimo compleanno (nel mese di aprile, 2005) un altro CD con le sue ultime opere, tutti i pezzi tipici della fisarmonica, 'Accordion Mon Amour'. | L'idea di un festival annuale di primavera denominato "Accordion Plus" è iniziata 3 anni fa ed è cresciuta da allora. Nel 2011, le sale centrali di Rostov-on-Don, hanno attirato oltre 3.000 persone ai concerti e concorsi. Ogni anno il Centro Musicale Internazionale "Armonia", ha invitato artisti di fama provenienti da diversi paesi, in rappresentanza della fisarmonica in diversi generi di musica professionale. In collaborazione con il Dipartimento Comunale di Cultura di Rostov-on-Don, il festival prevede un concorso per fisarmonicisti. La data di chiusura delle iscrizioni è il 10 marzo 2012.  La Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus, in Danimarca, offrirà un nuovo corso di laurea che porta al Master of Global Music (GLOMAS), che coinvolge vari strumenti, tra cui la fisarmonica. Si tratta di un programma innovativo e specializzato di laurea, rispondente alle nuove esigenze derivanti dalla globalizzazione nel campo della musica. Nella maggior parte dei casi, il programma Master avrà 2 anni da completare, e porta ad un Master of Music (MMU). La lingua comune del programma è l'inglese. La scadenza per le domande è 1 Marzo 2012.Il programma enfatizza lo sviluppo di competenze 'bimusical delle esibizioni, tipicamente entro almeno due tradizioni provenienti da diverse parti del mondo, così come studi su argomenti rilevanti per la carriera di un musicista professionista. Gli studenti saranno principalmente collegati ad uno dei tre Glomus fondando istituzioni partner in Danimarca, Svezia (Malmö Academy of Music) e Finlandia (Sibelius Academy, Helsinki), ma anche partecipando a corsi congiunti tenuti presso ogni istituzione, per i quali le spese saranno di norma coperte. Oltre ai corsi, tutti gli studenti condurranno anche in una straniera o minoritarie cultura musicale.  ‘Accordéon de toujours’ is a modestly priced DVD compilation of archive performances from French TV. Mostly from the 1960s and 70s, mostly in black and white, by leading musette accordionists:Gus Viseur, Yvette Horner, Marcel Azzola, Jo Privat, Aimable, Andre Verchuren, Harry Williams, Emile Prud’homme, Edouard Duleu, Etienne Lorin, Charley Bazin, Ro land Romanelli, Tony Murena, Louis Ferrari, Maurice Larcange, and Les Freres Domergue. The 37 tracks include some featuring singers such as Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, and Mireille Mathieu, with accordion accompaniment. The DVD is in Region 2 PAL format, and available via Amazon France. |

| There have been all sorts of records set concerning the accordion, such as the largest and smallest instruments, largest ensemble of players, playing for hours on end, etc. The Accordions Worldwide news for February 20th 1998 included an item about the longest accordion in the world, which must require a considerable amount of space to play. What other strikingly different accordions are out there, we wonder? LONGEST ACCORDION IN THE WORLD Contributed by Uli Ebner The Handharmonika Orchester Albtal has made the longest accordion in the world, which is standing in the town of St. Blasien in the Black forest area, Germany. The accordion stretches to 10.34 meters long and club members built it to celebrate the 40th birthday of the club. The orchestra is now in the Guinness Book of Records, registration number 339098 and performed ‘Snow Waltz’ to celebrate. |

It pushes forward the idea of music, culture and art as a "place", where the rules and limitations of everyday life do not apply, where people exchange ideas and points of view free of ideological and geographical borders, where humanity and respect are given free reign.The full concert program can be downloaded: 2012Wien Artists at this month long major international festival include diatonic accordionist Riccardo Tesi (Italy), Renato Borghetti (Brazil), Otto Lechner (Austria), Lüül & Band (Germany), Sophie Cavez & Baltazar Montanaro (Belgium), Sterzinger Experience (Austria), Lepistö & Lehti (Finland), Walther Soyka (Austria), the Rosi Ledet & The Zydeco Playboys (USA), and many more. The opening concert on Saturday 25th is Otto Lechner & Die Winhunde which is a loose co-operation of several Vienna based musicians/artists of international renown. These 9 musicians reflecting these ideas in their work and with a spontaneous group-composition! Also featured in the opening concert is Vienna Balkan Groove. Many musicians from the former Yugoslavia living in Vienna have shaped the sound of the city we enjoy today – the sound of a musical capital full of diversity and styles with a booming Worldmusic- and Balkan-scene.  The 1925 silent version of the ‘Phantom of the Opera’, starring Lon Chaney, was one the first horror films to come from Hollywood, and is a legendary cult classic of the genre. The film was often screened with accompaniment from piano or cinema organ.‘Phantom of the Opera’ is to be shown at The Ivy House, 40 Stuart Road, London SE15 3BE, on Friday February 24th, 8pm. Live improvised music accompaniment will be performed by accordionist Igor Outkine. The next seminars and teaching courses by Frédéric Deschamps will take place in la Selle sur le Bied, France from February 27 to March 4th then March 5 and March 11. Learn the new teaching techniques developed by Frédéric Deschamps, and the relationship between the compression of the bellows and the elasticity of the keyboards, the development of the velocity by promoting body movements rather than fingers, motor skills, development of tactile memory by limiting the depression of keys etc.. Courses are only individual, public or behind closed doors and broadcast live streaming or not according to the desire of the trainee.  Accordionist Eva Zöllner performs in concert on March 15th, 7.30pm, at The Performance Centre, University College Falmouth, Tremough Campus, Penryn, Cornwall, TR10 9LX.For many years Eva Zöllner has been travelling the world with her accordion and does not only cross geographical borders. She is a specialist for contemporary music, and composers from Japan to Argentina have written new works for her. Eva is particularly interested in the combination of her instrument with computer sounds and live-electronics. Her program features brand new pieces for accordion and electronics and shows the current work of young composers all around the world. Eva Zöllner, born in Germany in 1978, was educated as classical accordionist at the Academy of Music Cologne and at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. She is one of the most active accordionists of her generation and devotes herself to contemporary music. Eva has performed as a soloist in most European countries, in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, the USA, Japan, Venezuela and in Mexico, where she was the driving force to establish the accordion in contemporary music life. She has worked with leading ensembles for contemporary music (e.g. MusikFabrik, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, La Camerata de Las Américas), and in various opera productions (Royal Opera House, London). She is a regular guest at festivals and concert series all around the world. An important part of her activity is the close cooperation with composers. She has premiered around 100 new works for accordion. Lately she has been particularly interested in the potential of the accordion within electroacoustic music and multimedia art.
