Lionel Reekie was born in Rotorua, New Zealand in March 1973, and is now a resident in Auckland. He has appeared as a soloist on stages in many countries including USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to performing extensively in many of New Zealand's top hotels, restaurants and clubs, Lionel was a featured soloist at the American Accordionist's Association festivals in Houston, Texas (1995), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1996) & Washington DC (1997). At these festivals, Lionel not only gave several concerts, but also gave workshops on MIDI with accordion. Other festivals where Lionel has performed as a soloist include:

	With such a wide variety of performing locations, Lionel is required to maintain an extensive repertoire of music, from ethnic through to modern using conventional and MIDI accordion. Lionel has been a member of the Air New Zealand Accordion Orchestra since 1985 and was the lead vocalist on the 1992 and 1996 tours through Europe, as well as the 1994 tour of USA/Canada. The orchestra's 1994 CD "On Tour" features much of the programme from these three tours. A holder of the New Zealand Accordion Association Teacher's Certificate, Lionel is Manager of the Music Education Centre where he teaches accordion and electronic keyboard. No stranger to radio and television, Lionel has had performances and interviews broadcast throughout the world. As a recording artist, Lionel released an album, "Lionel Reekie Sings", with the ODE record label in 1987. Since that time, he has featured on many other recordings including some used by the New Zealand Education Department. Lionel's professional expertise has been honoured with many awards including: 1990 Winner of the "Show Business" class at the AFNA competition (USA) 1991 Winner of the New Zealand Variety Artist's "Rising Star" award 1994-96 Nominated 3 times as top New Zealand instrumentalist 1996 Nominated for the "Shure Microphone" award for most professional act

	In December 1996 Lionel released his latest recording, a CD titled "Starlight", which features a selection of tunes from Lionel's extensive repertoire, using MIDI accordion and vocals.
