Li Cong is a famous Chinese accordion teacher who lives in Shanghai City on the East coast of China. Li Cong is also the President of the Shanghai Accordion Association (SAA) since 1996. The SAA has over 150 members, mainly accordion teachers and excellent students. The SAA organizes a few large events related to the accordion every year and has regularly invited overseas guest artists such as New Zealander Maurice Jones (in 1998) and French accordionist Jean Louis Noton (in 1999) to hold concerts, often attended by audiences of over 2000 people. The SAA has many other concerts and about 2,500 accordionists perform annually at SAA events. He is a member of the Shanghai Accordion Examination Board which has some 2,000 accordion students sit their examinations each year. Li Cong is the accordion tutor at the Shanghai Normal University Music Department. The university trains teachers, primarily for college age schools. Li Cong has been working at the Shanghai Normal University for eighteen years and has held some important positions including the director of instrumental music staff office, the director of the ensemble and the vice-dean of the Music Department. As well managing and teaching accordion there, he also researchs accordion teaching methods. Li Cong is the Manager of the Accordions Worldwide Chinese internet site which he established in 1998. It has been growing very rapidly since that date to now have several thousand pages of information. The traffic to the site has also grown greatly as more and more Chinese have access to the internet. Li Cong believes that communication is important and this site is a "bridge that connects Chinese accordionists to the rest of the world".
