NOTE

This is the time of year for many national and international accordion festivals and competitions to be held in different parts of the world. Events in the near future include the Castelfidardo Festival and one month later the Coupe Mondiale in Trossingen plus several other competitions and festivals in Europe. For information on Future Events please check our Yellow Pages. I hope all competition entrants will appreciate, that 95% plus of the value of competing is from listening to others and the learning experience gained, up to the time of leaving the stage. The place you receive teaches you no more. While it is natural to want to be a winner, only one can be a winner in each class. If you have not received a 1st place, you are still "a winner" if you have learnt enormously. I therefore wish all competitors "Good Luck" and hope their competition experience is both valuable and a great time. If you are considering entering a competition in the future, you can choose one from our list of Annual Competitions/Events page and start planning now. Wayne Knights Webmaster |
The 49th Accordion Trophée Mondial was held in Ourense, Spain from September 27th to October 3rd. Frédéric Deschamps 'Hohner artists' team had an unprecedented triumph, winning the first four places in the "Variété" (Light Music) category.
Another Hohner team member Jérôme Richard (19 years old) won the Senior Concerto Category. Jérôme, who is also a student of Frédéric Deschamps, won the "Variété" sections of the Coupe Mondiale in 1997 and Trophée Mondial, Castelfidardo and Klingenthal in 1998. In January 1999, he decided to attempt the concert repertoire classes, which required an immediate change to an accordion with the free bass system. After 9 months of practicing an average of 10 hours per day, he successfully entered the Trophée Mondial. Results: Senior Concerto Category
