The Toronto Star included an item recently about an Oakville (Ontario)
accordion player, who was charged for playing his polkas too loud and has one more chance to turn down the music! The trial of Ron Jensen was adjourned until June (1999) after a tentative agreement was reached where Jensen is to reduce the level of his accordion speakers, and Constable Shane Crawford will monitor the sound levels. If Jensen doesn't comply, he will be back in court to face the existing charge and a maximum fine of $5,000.
Jensen has been playing at weekends along the shores of Bronte Harbour for 17 years. Despite community support, Jensen said he may never come back to Bronte Village. "I don't feel they're trying to make an effort to help me out," he said.

Austrian accordionist Dr Herbert Scheibenreif has just returned from a
world trip where he was hosted by many accordionists including Fang Yuan
(Singapore), Tania Lukic and Bernadette Conlon (Australia), Harley and
Maurice Jones, Heather and Ian Masefield (New Zealand), Professor Joan
Sommers (Kansas City, USA) and Stanley Darrow and Joanna Arnold
(Westmont, USA). Without the help of these accordion friends, Herbert
believes that such a trip would not have been possible!
Herbert says, "It was very interesting to see the situation of the
accordion in different places. Of course, every country has to follow
it's own development, but every accordionist should be eager to learn
what's going on elsewhere and that's why it is so important to have the
services of Accordions Worldwide. As student I had to go abroad to get
new information about the accordion. Nowadays someone has only to switch
on the computer and take a look at |
