Accordion Repairs Made Easy
Friedrich Lips' CD Releases, Moscow - Russia
Contributed by Dr. Herbert Scheibenreif of Friedrich Lips Productions

Friedrich Lips' two recent CD releases 'LA CUMPARSITA' and '¡BUENOS DIAS; ASTOR!' are dedicated to the work of Astor Piazzolla.

When Friedrich Lips started to discover Piazzolla's music in the 1970s, it was an experience of overwhelming splendour, of powerful, emotional colours as well as of penetrating recitatives in oeuvres full of glowing rhythm.

At once he included some of his tangos in his solo program, and in September 1993 the first concert of Lips' quintet 'Piazzolla-Studio' took place in the little hall of the Moscow Conservatory: 'Argentinean Tangos by Astor Piazolla'.

Musicians who took part in this ensemble in different years were Friedrich Lips - bayan, Vladislav Igolinsky - violin, Kirill Rodin - cello, Svjatoslav Lips - piano, Mark Pekarsky - percussion, Nikolay Lgovsky - percussion, and Vladimir Toncha - cello.

Lips does not think that Piazzolla has left us. He just passed on to another dimension, and has stayed with us through his unique creations. With these CDs containing his wonderful tangos Lips wants to tell him "Buenos Dias, Astor!"

All Friedrich Lips CD's are available for purchase online via secure server site.

There were concerts featuring jazz, tango, classical, Continental and Scottish music, plus a series of technique based workshops and orchestral rehearsals. Thierry Benetoux is publishing a new book 'Sounding Out The Accordion'. This book will be available at the end of March and can be ordered in advance at a special price on the internet. The book, about sound diversity in the accordion, is such that many accordionists wish to explore the potential of their instruments to the full. This book, with its DVD, offers an opportunity to explore the varieties of sounds in various instruments. This incredible diversity is little known by the general public and even to some musicians.
