The Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes
(CIA) held its 119th General Assembly of Delegates 'Winter Congress'
in Skopje, Macedonia, hosted by the Association of Accordionists
from the Republic of Macedonia.

In addition to the General Assembly, association President Zorica
Karakutovska, Vice President Elizabeta Ilievska, Public Relations
Manager Anica Karakutovska and Secretary Biljana Mladenovska provided
an exciting array of activities including meetings, sightseeing,
a reception with the Mayor of Skopje Mr. Trifun Kostovski, visits
and meetings at the school and university, a formal concert of Professor
Karakutovska's students, as well as an evening of Macedonian entertainment.
Nineteen
Delegates from around the world traveled to Skopje to attend this
first CIA function held in Macedonia. During the Congress, two new
associations were accepted for CIA membership including the Associação
dos Acordeonistas do Brasil (AAB) - President: Lauro Valerio, and
the Italian Accordion Culture (IAC) - President: Federica Celesti.
The CIA
Merit Award, in recognition of outstanding contributions to
the International accordion movement were accepted to be awarded
to renowned concert artist and teacher Friedrich
Lips (Russia - picture above left) and to Manfred Gäbler
(Germany) the organizer of the Klingenthal
International Accordion Competition for more than 40 years.
The Honored
Friend of the Accordion Award was accepted to be awarded to
Friedl Preisl and Herwig Peychär (Austria), Silvio
De Pra (New Zealand - picture above right) and Sylvia Prior
(USA - photo below), recognizing their lifelong work on behalf of
the accordion in their respective countries.
Members
of the Music Committee worked in person and via electronic communication
to finalize competition guidelines for the 2008 Coupe Mondiale to
be held in Glasgow, Scotland (poster left) from the October 22nd

Portraits of the Musette Greats, Montpellier - France
Artists Robert Crumb and Dominique Cravic have produced portraits
of 12 French accordionists from the 1930s, including Gus Viseur, Médard
Ferero,Tony Murena, and Jo Privat. Each picture is signed, measures
33cm x 33cm, and is in six colours.
Competition categories are open to citizens of all countries and performers
of any kind of instrument (piano accordion, bayan, diatonic etc).
Previous international championships attracted interest from New Zealand,
China, Croatia, Russia and Australia.
Master Classes are held during the event, where you will have an opportunity
to get accordion advice from the internationally renowned accordion
tutors that are attending.
Traditionally, the most popular part of the event is the Gala Concert

'Twentieth Shetland Accordion & Fiddle Festival'
DVD - Scotland
A DVD has been issued featuring several bands performing at a Grand
Dance on October 13th in Lerwick at the 2007 Shetland Accordion &
Fiddle Festival. The bands include Cullivoe Dance Band, Gordon Shand
Scottish Dance Band, Alan Nicolson Dance Band, Sandy Nixon Scottish
Dance Band, Jimmy Burgess Dance Band, Roy Hendrie Scottish Dance Band,
Da Fustra Dance Band, Susan McFadyen Scottish Dance Band, James Leask
Dance Band, Pentlands Ceilidh Band, Leeshinat, Sandy Legget and the
Carseloch Ceilidh Band. The comperes are Nicol McLaren and Robert
Lovie, and the running time is 115 minutes.

Félicien Brut, Winner of 3 International
Competitions! - France
Four students of the music school CNIMA
J.MORNET took part in the CMA Trophée Mondiale:
2nd: Eric Allard-Jacquin (Junior Variety)
3rd: Yves Moulin (Senior Variety)
Pierre Laval (Junior Variety)
and Felicien Brut won the 1st place (Senior Variety).
The talent of Félicien has been combined wiith the prestige
of this school founded by Jacques Mornet and directed by Nathalie
Boucheix. Félicien
entered the school CNIMA
J.MORNET, thanks to an uncle, while he was only seven years old
and is a "pure product" of the successful training available.
Since 2001 Félicien Brut has been winning competitions.
His next ambition is to acquire the DEM (Certificate of Studies Musical)
and to teach in Conservatories. Félicien Brut has now founded
a trio with Pascal Meurgé - keyboard and vocals, and Amélie
Castel - drums and vocals. They will make their public debut on Saturday,
January 19th, 9.30pm, in the Casino of Bourboule (free entrance).
On
Thursday, January 17th, Jeff
Lisenby's jazz accordion concert at the University of Missouri
at Kansas City Performing Arts Center with his talented daughter Jaclyn
Brown, as guest vocalist. This was a wonderful concert, featuring
an outstanding accordionist and a superb vocalist and also promoting
the newly released CD "A
Spy In Tortuga".
Doug Auwarter -drums, Danny Embry - guitar, and Greg Whitfield - bass
accompanied accordionist Jeff Lisenby for a concert no one wanted

Accordionist and Festival Director has written a jazz orientated musical
play titled 'Opera?', which will be performed at the Teatro Polifunzionale,
Pineto, on January 26th, at 9.30pm. The accompanying orchestra includes
Renzo Ruggieri on accordion
and melodica. Entrance is free.

Ramon
Ayala, one of the leading norteño accordionists, singers and
songwriters is in concert at the Gibson Amphitheatre, 100 Universal

AAMS Festival, Pennsylvania - USA

The annual festival and competition sponsored by the American Accordion
Musicological Society (AAMS) takes place from March 7th to 9th, and
once again held at the Dolce Valley Forge Hotel, King of Prussia,
Pennslyvania.
The
program of guest performers this year includes Mario Tacca (left),
Mary Mancini, Stanley and Joanna
Darrow (right) Richard DiBlassio, Ron Onda, Ed Touchstone, Bobby
Raye (picture below) Jim Vandelly, and Lenny Feldmann, known as
'The CordeenMan'.
The festivities begin with a Cajun/Zydeco concert on the opening night.
Saturday will feature the competitions and a range of accordion workshops.
The
Annual Dinner takes place at 5.30pm on Saturday evening where this
year's Honoree, Rik Kaplan, will be recognized. An Accordion Spectacular
Concert, featuring guest artistes Mario Tacca and Mary Mancini, and
supporting acts, will follow the dinner.
On Sunday, the morning will continue with more competitions and more
workshops. After lunch will be the Awards Concert featuring the Festival
Massed Band, guest artistes, and the presentation of awards and trophies.
The festival also includes a trade display, accordion repair seminars,
accordion memorabilia, recordings and sheet music.
The
Australian folk band Wongawilli are to visit Denmark, performing at
the Tuno Festival, July 2nd and 3rd, and at the Skagen Festival, July
4th to 6th. From July 8th to 15th, they are available for functions
anywhere in Europe.
Wongawilli plays traditional and contemporary Australian folk songs,
dances and music. They play a range of instruments featuring accordion,
concertina, piano, violin, guitar, lagerphone, banjo, whistle and
mandolin.
