Art
Van Damme endorses Jazz Accordion Solos book and
CD USA
Contributed
by Harley
Jones
The
Jazz Accordion Solos book with CD, written, arranged and
recorded by Gary Dahl lets you hear each arrangement to
facilitate faster learning. The book has received the endorsement
of famous Jazz accordionist Art Van Damme.
Author Gary
Dahl says: "This book is actually a music course by itself
because of the large amount of reharmonization, rhythm and improvisation
added to the original scores. If you seriously want to learn
how the RH and LH are used for swing, Dixie and jazz styles then study
this book. Learning harmony, improvisation and rhythmic patterns can
be realized quickly in the context of learning an exciting, useful
arrangement.
Visit: http://www.accordions.com/garydahl
to purchase this book and other Gary Dahl books of various styles
with a similar mission to the Jazz Accordion Solo book."
Gary Dahl is also running correspondence courses and he has some openings.
The correspondence method is very rewarding because results are realized
quickly; similar to private lessons but less costly.

Mika
Väyrynen performs for two Finnish Presidents, Naantali
- Finland
Contributed by Kevin
Friedrich
Two
Presidents of Finland, the current President Mrs. Tarja Halonen
and former President, Mr. Martti Ahtisaari, were among an audience
comprising celebrity politicians, conductors, composers and performers
at the opening concert of the Naantali Music Festival where Finnish
accordion virtuoso Mika Väyrynen was one of the featured guest
artistes. This was one of the very rare occasions when two
Presidents have been in the audience during an accordionists
performance with orchestra.
Celebrating the 70th birthday of Professor Aulis Sallinen, Mika
performed Sallinen's 'Chamber Music No. V (Barabbas Variations)
for Accordion and String Orchestra', with the 'Virtuosi di Kuhmo'
String Orchestra conducted by Professor Ralf Gothoni.
At the conclusion of the concert Mika
was invited on stage with the other artistes, and was also joined
by the guest of honor, Professor Aulis Sallinen. The concert
was followed by a VIP reception organized by Naantali City where
Mika and the soloists were able to visit with the Presidents and
other special guests.
Fellow
performers at the festival included such artistes as Vladimir Ashkenazy,
Barbara Hendricks, and Krzysztof Penderecki.

Frank Busso Jnr. Selected as New United
States Air Force Accordionist
Contributed by Kevin
Friedrich
Frank
Busso Junior, from Staten Island, New York, has been selected for
the coveted accordion position in the United States Air Force Strolling
Strings. The Air Force has been looking to replace the accordion
player of its bands Strolling Strings music ensemble since
the musician retired two years ago and now after a long search,
they have found just the person they are looking for.
"It
is very hard to find the right person for this job, but its
a great job for the right person", said Chief Master Sgt. Jane
Bockenek, the Strolling Strings music director who plays the
violin in the group. With little feedback after spreading the word
accross the country to teachers, colleges and studios, the Air Force
decided that since the accordion players were not coming to the
Air Force, the Air Force was going to go to the accordion players.
Sgt. Bockenek attended the American
Accordionists' Association Festival in Boston last year and
set up several auditions, however the search proved fruitless.
Earlier
this year Frank Busso Junior was at the right time in his career
to audition for the position, and the Air Force knew right away
they had found just the person they were looking for. They found
someone that fit all their criteria musically, and also someone
who fit the parameters of the United States Air Force.
First
step for Frank before he begins performing with the 22-member group
at the White House, State Functions and such, will be to endure
six weeks of rigorous basic training. "Theyll have to
go through boot camp like every other recruit, but they will also
be entitled to all the benefits of being in the military,"
Sgt. Bockenek said.
Frank
is the son of Frank Busso Senior, who owns and operates the Staten
Island Music School in Staten Island, New York.
